Friday ’ s event went well, considering. All of the politicians showed up, but the turnout was low due to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in our area and the fuel shortages in the state. Things went a little crazy because one of our staff volunteered with the Red Cross to help with refugee intake and had to leave in the morning just as our conference was beginning. The boss was kinda upset, but, I figured that homeless and destitute people were much more important.

Vince Young, the Longhorns ’ starting quarterback, basically pulled the team to victory in both games. In the Rose Bowl, he ran between, around, and over the Michigan defensive line and linebacking corps to the tune of four touchdowns. Tonight, he passed over the top into Ohio State ’ s secondary where he found mostly single coverage on the Longhorns ’ receivers. Very rarely in college football does a quarterback dictate what defense the opponent must play, but with Vince Young, if a defense does not stack extra bodies in the box, he will run for ridiculous amounts of yardage. He basically dictates that Longhorn receivers are going to see single coverage a vast majority of the time, and he simply has to hit them when they break open.

Roger Federer showed everyone just what an amazing player he is in today's final. Despite not playing his best tennis (he was down 4-2 in the 3rd set before breaking back and holding serve to reach at tie-breaker which he clinched by winning the last seven points in a row). He did this while playing against Andre Agassi, one of the few men ever to win every single major championship in a career, eventually winning 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1. This is Federer's 6th major title (2005 US, 2005 Wimbledon, 2004 US, 2004 Wimbledon, 2004 Australian, and 2003 Wimbledon) and 23rd consecutive win in a tournament final. He is now tied with Stefan Edberg and Boris Becker and one behind Mats Wilander and John Mcenroe for most major titles won. Pete Sampras has 14, but Federer is 24 years old.

What can I say about Texas/OSU. Still scratching my head at Tressel's decision to put in Justin Zwick, who had not done anything the whole game in the money drive of the game (I am writing this assuming all of you watched the game - if you are not sure WTF I am referring to just let me know in the comments section, I'd be happy to explain). OSU was mostly ineffective in offense settling for Fgs after getting Tos after Tos, yet the whole game only QB who was actually mounting a semblance of offensive drive was Troy Smith, and Tressel sat him down. I am not the only one. All the Buckeyes fans I was watching the game with were just as dumbfounded too. A horrible move by a great football coach. Guess it happens to everyone.

Here we are, four years after the twin towers fell, with billions of dollars spent on homeland security and reams of reports written, and we are faced with the abject failure of the federal government to do its part to protect and preserve human life.
