I can't help but wonder what, if any, implications this has in the Iraq nuke situation, since while North Korea agrees to end nuclear weapons program, Iran says it's going ahead with it's nuclear program. Even worse, Incredibly "though it may sound, there are signs that Tehran may be preparing for a military confrontation with the United States, and has convinced itself that it could win." Best Reality-competition Program – The Amazing Race (3rd year in a row!) Variety, Music Or Comedy Series – The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Variety, Music Or Comedy Special - The 58th Annual Tony Awards Emmy Idol - The online voting winners were Donald Trump & Megan Mullally, despite my 20 votes for Kristen Bell. Ok … just let me say … I ’ m going to have a lot of rehashing to do tomorrow … because a lot of this is rather mysterious to me … but the incredible diversity of tonight ’ s winners proves one thing: there is a LOT of good TV on all over the place right now! But Patricia Arquette over Mariska Hargitay??? ......

Predicting an easy confirmation for John Roberts as chief justice of the Supreme Court, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said Sunday he hoped President George W. Bush's next nominee for the top U.S. court will share Roberts'conservative credentials.

10: 55 - We 're closing in on three hours. I could have done without the announcement of the Emmy Idol winner. (I was right, by the way: Donald Trump and Megan Mullally are victorious.)

Final Fantasy VII was my introduction to the Japanese variety of role-playing game and a very enjoyable introduction it was too. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is the lovely looking CG movie sequel to the game. Things are not right in the world, there ’ s some kind of disease running rampant and three blokes on bikes have arrived with a connection to Cloud, Sephiroth and Jenova. Thankfully the plot stays reasonably coherent and doesn ’ t drift off into impenetrable explanations of spiritual things, plus it actually resolves itself in a rather straight forward manner.

The Emmy's are on. The actress from that NBC show Medium just won lead dramatic actress, which is weird because I just found out that my psychic died. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a car accident. Matt says that she should have seen it coming.

Congrats to John Stewart and The Daily Show! The cast of LOST, and JJ! and Tony Shaloub of Monk, and William Shatner of Boston Legal. (next year Dom Mongahan for best supporting actor on a drama series, and Elijah Wood for best guest on a drama series!) Might put up a sketch I did for Dark Frodo, but not using. More ABAHH today!

There seems to be rampant idiocy running through the outdoor industry these days as indicated by this image sent to us by our blunder-busting brand bluecoat, Bucky Turco. Following Viacom's placement of a Mcdonald's billboard directly below that of a childhood obesity board (though one person says it could be a Photoshop job), Van Wagner Outdoor, in New York City, has placed a a poster, at 1st and 19th, backwards on a phone kiosk. Perhaps intending to reach passing drivers as they look in their rear view mirror, the poster is an ad for Tim Burton's new Corpse Bride movie.

This last Saturday I went to see Reggie and the Full Effect [I think], Alkaline Trio, and My Chemical Romance in concert. It was a really great concert!! I had a good time with my friends. I don't remember what was played song for song, but I know Mit did. I just remember My Chemical Romance played the two songs I wanted to hear Helena and I'm Not OK. The only bad thing about the evening was I got a migraine and I'm not mentioning the rest.

Did you ever get that strange feeling of deja vu? A major democratic nation is trying to figure out who won its most recent election, only this time it's Germany, not the U.S., (today's No. 4 top blog post) struggling to determine whether Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder (today's No. 12 leading personality) or conservative challenger Angela Merkel (today's 25th burstiest person) will take charge in Deutschland. "Smell you later, Gerhard," says the blogger at No Parasan, while Shot in the Dark examines the deeper, more complicated issues at stake. (I've already emailed my cousin in Germany, offering the services of the Florida Board of Elections and U.S. Supreme Court to help count votes, just in case).

For being due in about two months or less, Jennifer Garner looks pretty damn good. I mean, if you didn't see this gargantuan belly, you probably wouldn't know she was pregnant.;) And, hooray for Lost! It's about time a show that I watch and love, gets some big lovin'in return! I'm just upset that neither Naveen Andrews nor Terry O'quinn won for Best Supporting Actor (Drama). Both are deserving. But, I'm not a voter, so...: Pnext year, they'll win. Maybe. Hopefully. *** I have a T/F test on

Charlie and the Chocolate factory is an awesome movie. It's really very good. I've thought about posting all day today, and now that I'm here, I don't really want to. And hey, I never noticed recently, my icon is still Willy Wonka! Yay!: D.I'm seeing it again tomorrow, but I'll tell you about that tomorrow night. :)

I just watched the movie Pearl Harbor on TV and I've got to say, I think it's a pretty good movie. I mean, it's definitely not the best movie in the world and the acting could be better in parts, but it's good overall. The only thing that really bothered me about it though was that at the end, when Danny (Josh Hartnett) was dying and Rafe (Ben Affleck) told him he was going to be a father, Danny was like, "no, you will." That kind of weirded me out... it was like they were just swapping around that girl whose name I can't remember. What, did she not have a choice? The whole idea of these two guys having a weird love triangle with that girl seemed kind of convoluted and well, gross to me. Imagine finally telling that little kid exactly how he came about and who daddy really is.

Mayor Ray Nagin and the federal head of Katrina recovery, Thad Allen, will meet this afternoon to reconsider re-entry into the 70115 and 70118 zip codes. Too late, people are already going in. It comes down to the quality of tap water and Tropical Storm Rita ’ s plans.

Today the Commission on Federal Election Reform headed by former President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James Baker issued its final report and recommendations on election reform. As a matter of disclosure, I served as an academic advisor to the commission and testified at a commission hearing; as noted (page 103) serving as an advisor "does not imply [agreement] with all of the report's recommendations." In fact, I think that some of this report is right on target, some of this report has distracting recommendations, and some of the recommendations are wrongheaded.

The value the Times has chosen for Timesselect is $50/year which obviously works out to $1/week. This certainly isn ’ t a hardship, and were it possible to buy a subscription that covered only the work of Paul Krugman, Bob Herbert, Maureen Dowd, and Frank Rich, I ’ d pay $50 without a second thought. But paying any amount of money for columns by David Brooks, John Tierney, Nick Kristof, Tom Friedman, or god forbid, Sarah Vowell is simply not an option.

Mayor Nagin is accountable to the people of New Orleans. Governor Blanco is accountable to the people of Louisiana. President Bush is accountable to the people of America. And he has a lot to be accountable for. They each had a job to do, and they should each be judged on how well they did it. I can understand partisanship, but I can ’ t understand a desire to see Bush avoid accountability for deep, unforgivable failures.

Clinton didn ’ t just take issue with Mr. Bush ’ s handling of Hurricane Katrina. He also faulted him for the war in Iraq and other issues. And while I was busying socializing, browsing for books and watching the pleasant flick, Just Like Heaven, a few bloggers weighed in on Mr. Clinton ’ s lack of class. They pointed out how his criticisms of his successor were at odds with his past statements, made both while he was in office and after he left. This blogger does a good job of fisking the former president ’ s interview with his one-time aide. (HT: Polipundit ’ s Lorie Byrd.)

You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet. You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who like strong women.

Off duty, Rachel Bilson, 24, and Mischa Barton, 19 (far right), have started mirroring each other ’ s style sensibilities from top (long, straight hair and long necklaces) to bottom (shorts with peep - toe heels). Tony Sanfilippo is of two minds when it comes to Google's ambitious program. On the one hand, Sanfilippo credits the program for boosting sales of obscure titles at Penn State University Press, where he works. On the other, he's worried that Google's plans to create digital copies of books obtained directly from libraries could hurt his industry's long-term revenues.

Not to be outdone, Detroit QB Joey Harrington matched Culpepper ’ s pick party by throwing five interceptions of his own while leading the Lions to an embarrassing 38-6 loss to the Bears Sunday. The Lions as a team looked pathetic in Chicago, with RB Kevin Jones managing just 22 yards on 8 carries. Roy Williams hauled in an early 51-yard touchdown pass but that was Detroit ’ s lone highlight. When Jeff Garcia went down with a broken leg during the preseason, many tabbed Harrington as a potential sleeper as the unchallenged starter in Detroit ’ s high-octane offense. Through two games, though, Harrington looks like waiver-wire fodder and the Lions look overrated.
