Last night, the Chicago White Sox swept the Houston Astros to win the franchise's first World Series since 1917. This win comes on the heels of last year's Red Sox World Series sweep, their first title since 1918. The Chicago Cub franchise now stands along for prolonged droughts since their last championship, with their win coming in 1906. If both colors of Sox can do it, why not the Cubbies?

On National Radio yesterday afternoon, he condemned the Human Rights Commission's advocacy role, calling it "propaganda". Today, his colleague Paul Hutchison is calling on the government to act on a recommendation from the HRC (produced as part of that advocacy role) to improve disabled access to public transport infrastructure. Frogblog thinks this is a cunning attempt by National to damn the government whatever they do - but this makes the mistake of ascribing to conspiracy that which can easily be explained by incompotence. A better explanation is that National's left hand simply doesn't know what the right is doing...

With the withdrawal of Harriet Miers'nomination to the Supreme Court already several hours past, speculation is of course already building towards the third nominee to succeed Sandra Day O'connor (side question: has there ever before been a case where three nominations to succeed one justice were necessary?). In the bottom of the eighth, Willy Taveras was hit by a one-out pitch from Chicago reliever Cliff Politte, who then threw a wild pitch to Lance Berkman, allowing Taveras to take second. Berkman was then intentionally walked. Morgan Ensberg flied out to right, and, while Berkman held at first, Taveras tagged up and tooled on down to third. Politte was pulled for Neal Cotts, who induced a groundout from José Vizcaíno to end the inning and preserve Chicago's lead.

I bought a pair of $35 boots to go with the costume that I bought LAST YEAR FOR OTAKON 2004!!! Wearing the bitches now, too might I add. I just got off the phone with Jem not too long ago... I skipped the Piercing Pagoda tonight. I am now going to the movies with Jem to see Stay. Ewan Mcgregor and Ryan Gosling .... yum. In between getting off the phone with Jem, and being here at the Library, I cut my hair all off. Just so I can look like Yuuna from Final Fantasy X-2. I wish I could be so hot. But anyway. I'm not so entirely sure that I like this look on me yet, but then again it's not completely dry.
