Wow, wow! I love Harry Potter!!! Daniel Radcliffe is so cute! ^ _ ^ I read this thing on a site about the movie. In order to acquaint himself with his three lead actors, director Alfonso Cuarón had each of them write an essay about their characters, from a first-person point of view. Emma Watson, in true Hermione fashion, went a little overboard and wrote an 16 page essay. Daniel Radcliffe wrote a simple one-page summary, and Rupert Grint never even turned his in.

Well, I haven ’ t seen Gof yet (* stabs Australian box office for releasing on Dec 1 *) so don ’ t tell me anything * covers ears * but I ’ m inclined to expect Rita Skeeter to be the best part of the movie. She ’ s certainly undeniably hawt! So in honour of the release of Gof, and Miranda Richardson ’ s Rita, I want to start a flood of fandom Rita love. And so I bring you the Rita Skeeter Fuh-q-fest! I'm hosting this over at, with the mod's permission. Details here! Who wants to play?

The last known veteran of the First World War's Christmas truce has died aged 109. Black Watch veteran Alfred Anderson died at a care home in Angus, Scotland. Born in Dundee on June 25, 1896, Mr Anderson was until earlier this year a member of the congregation at Alyth Parish Church whose minister, Rev Neil Gardner, is a former Black Watch chaplain. Mr Gardner said: "Alfred passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was Scotland's oldest man but he remained lucid almost until the end. He was a very gracious and unassuming man. He was the last surviving veteran anywhere to have served in the First World War in 1914 and lived a truly remarkable life." Source: The Scotsman/PA News.

I think we should stop letting this happen to our American warriors. I do care if oil goes to $100 a barrel because Iraq has a civil war, but I care much, much more about continuing to waste our national treasure — human and financial — on this counter-productive war. Giving the benefit of the doubt to those who began the war, the United States went in to remove Saddam Hussein and his weapons of mass destruction. Hussein is captured; there were no weapons. Mission Accomplished.

Daniel, Emma and Rupert are getting better and better, and Michael Gambon rocks my socks with his interpretation of Dumbledore. Richard Harris was a great actor but I have to say in this case... no. He made a terrible Dumbledore. Gambon captures the human and humourous aspects of Dumbledore in a way that Harris didn't and probably wouldn't have. Brendan Gleeson has made Mad-eye Moody (even though at that point it's not so much really Mad-eye)

Disclaimer: Harry Potter and its characters belong to JK Rowling and so on. I do not own anything but the muse. Which came when I saw the making of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I will not elaborate, however. But the slash-filled part of my mind was smirking all the while.

. You know you have a really bad made-for-tv film when it can't even be saved by the likes of Adam Baldwin, Peter Weller, and Rutger Hauer. All three of'em were like, "Sorry, everybody, I'm doing the best I can with this..." I'd like to mention something snarky about the presence of Steve Guttenberg and C. Thomas Howell, but they did try really hard, so I won't.

Today, I went and saw Goblet of Fire. Good movie. Long movie. I ’ m not sure yet whether I like it better than Prisoner of Azkaban or not. But I definitely like Michael Gambon more as Dumbledore than Richard Harris.

‘ … Mr Bush answered a range of questions before one reporter said: “ Respectfully, sir — you know we ’ re always respectful — in your statement this morning with President Hu, you seemed a little off your game, you seemed to hurry through your statement. There was a lack of enthusiasm. Was something bothering you? ” The president answered: “ Have you ever heard of jet lag? Well, good. That answers your question. ” The reporter asked for a follow-up question but the president then thanked the attending journalists and said “ No you may not ” as he walked away. He strode from the lectern to the door, trying both handles and then breaking into a laugh. ’

Hmmm ....... I don't like the new Doctor Who. I just watched the little preview they showed on the BBC fundraiser and no, I don't like David Tennant. Then again, I didn't like Christopher Eccleston at the beginning either. It looks like they 're starting the new season on Christmas. New episodes of Battlestar Galactica start on January 6th. Season 2 of Lost should continue well into Spring. Excellent, lots of great TV during the cold winter months.

I saw Derailed last night. It's a great movie that pisses you off a lot. I actually felt like I was in Clive Owen's character's shoes and going through all the crap he was having to deal with, at least most of it. The relationship with Jennifer Aniston's character (can't remember either of the character's names) seemed forced, rushed, and unnatural. I think that was my only complaint about this otherwise great thriller. The ending was a nice twist too! I still want to see The Squid and the Whale.

The second installment of J.R.R. Tolkien's best-selling Lord of the Rings trilogy comes to life with director Peter Jackson returning to the helm and Elijah Wood, Ian Mckellen, Viggo Mortensen, Cate Blanchett and others returning to their roles as various creatures from Middle Earth. The Academy Award-winning first installment left many battles unfought, and Frodo the hobbit braves terrible dangers in an attempt to have an evil ring destroyed.

Sandrine Helene Sellies, 34, who has a fear of flying, had drunk alcohol and taken sleeping tablets ahead of the flight from Hong Kong to Brisbane. She was seen on the Cathay Pacific plane walking towards a door with an unlit cigarette and a lighter. She then began tampering with the emergency exit until she was stopped by a flight attendant. Defence lawyer Helen Shilton said her client had no memory of what had happened on the flight on Saturday, and that she had a history of sleepwalking. She pleaded guilty to endangering the safety of an aircraft at Brisbane Magistrates Court and was given a 12-month A $1,000 (£ 429) good behaviour bond - she will forfeit the money if she commits another offence. The French tourist was at the start of a three-week holiday in Australia with her husband.

There could, however, be no greater sign of a politically changed landscape than the decision of former president Bill Clinton (who practically had himself adopted into the Bush family over the last year) to tell a group of Arab students in Dubai only two-and-a-half years late that the Iraqi invasion was a "big mistake". Since he is undoubtedly a stalking horse for his wife, that great, cautious ship-of-nonstate, the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, should soon turn its prow ever so slowly to catch the oppositional winds.

"Capote" was excellent. T. found Philip Seymour Hoffman's portrayal of Truman very unsympathetic, but in my view, he was never shown as so unlikeable that you didn't care what happened to him. I particularly enjoyed the details of the era, the late'50s and early'60s. Everything was so staid, the men wore suits, the women wore heels, the blacks wore service uniforms. All the actors were great, especially Catherine Keener as Harper Lee. (I always loved "To Kill a Mockingbird.") The pace was languid and felt a bit slow, but the plot development was always riveting. There was never a giant didactic hammer hitting the nail: See? This is the point! And here! This is the point!

Sue me, I'm too hungry right now to sit here and bang out a full entry. Saw a show today, and tons of people. Date night with Phoenixboi was fun, ended up seeing "Shopgirl," which I think is wonderful and beautiful. Steve Martin is so great, and I like Claire Danes again, and Jason Schwartzman is a silly mofo. Fun movie. Did lots and lots of laundry. Gained a couch. Yay! Getting ready for the Big Drive up to Navy Sis's place for Thanksgiving. Actually looking forward to it, mostly due to the fact that it'll be a holiday with the immediate fam and that means I stand a better chance of having a good time. Gon na eat. Gon na finish watching GA. Ought to finish CHERRY ORCHARD tonight; wish me luck, I got my hands on the Mamet translation. It's actually readable.

Earlier this month, Israeli politics were shaken up when Amir Peretz, an economic progressive, ousted former Prime Minister Shimon Peres as leader of the Labor Party. Early polling from the race indicated that the newly invigorated Labor Party would give the right-of-center Likud Party a run for its money in next year's Knesset (parliamentary) elections, narrowing Likud's 19-seat lead (in a 120 member body) to a mere seven-seat advantage.

Stuart Taylor has a good essay on whether Samuel Alito is truly outside the mainstream. Not that being inside some national mainstream is or should be a primary criterion for Supreme Court Justice. Still, we should keep all discussions factual, and Taylor helps us to do that.

But never before have the Marlins been as willing to pull out as many of the stops as we've been hearing. The team is very close to trading Mike Lowell and Josh Beckett to the Rangers. Carlos Delgado and Juan Pierre have also been on the block, possibly going to the Mets and Cubs, respectively. There have been other names mentioned, as well, such as Luis Castillo, Guillermo Mota and even Paul Lo Duca.
