On yesterday's New York Times editorial page, Adam Cohen comments on the right's annual "rouse the somnambulent massses with something dumb" campaign: getting people riled up because liberals want to kill Santa Claus and Baby Jesus. Or something like that. This began in full force last year but it's back, of course. Rather than have people talking about Iraq or health care or the economy, the idea is to keep people focused on what really matters: the horrors of people saying "happy holidays" instead of "merry Christmas."

So last night I stayed up until about 2 AM writing my paper. Wendy stayed up much later than I did. Apparently when I sleep I'll wake up and say "WHAT!" and then go back to sleep. I have another paper due tomorrow that I need to write today. College is swell!

Thanks to The Binary Circumstance for revealing how tabloids may have uncovered the truth of Bush's return to the bottle. Noting how tabloids recently got it right about Brad Pitt leaving Jennifer Aniston for Angelina Jolie, Binary Circumstanc postulates they may also be bang on with the rumours of Bush being caught knocking back "Texas sized" shots after Katrina flattened and flooded New Orleans.

Britney Spears'latest Las Vegas visit has'em guessing. There's paparazzi buzz that she's in town for Tuesday's Billboard Awards at the MGM Grand. Her hubby, Kevin Federline, flew in, apparently hoping to reconcile their bumpy marriage. But that might not happen after reports that she had a towing company return the Ferrari he purchased to a Los Angeles dealership. Other speculation has her connected to tonight's unveiling of the Palms new recording studios in the new Fantasy tower. If so, Palms owner George Maloof isn't saying.

Toronto Star - Gilles Duceppe is setting out to do what no sovereignist leader has ever done before. He wants to break the symbolic barrier of 50 per cent support for a sovereignist party in Quebec. Prime Minister Paul Martin accentuated this dynamic when he said on Friday this is "really a referendum election" and "Quebecers have a choice between a party determined to destroy Canada and us."

Katie Holmes may be betrothed to her dream man, but her dream wedding gown is not the Giorgio Armany creation her fiance, Tom Cruise, is having made for her, says a source. A source close to Tom says that Katie's ivory-colored satin gown -- which was designed especially for her by the Italian designer -- was not the Ohio native's first choice. "Katie is like every girl -- she visualized walking down the aisle on her proud dad Martin's arm while wearing her mother's wedding dress, as two of her older sisters have done already," says that source about Katie, 26, who is due sometime next year. "But she's well along in her pregnancy and the dress simply doesn't seem to fit!" QUICK QUESTIONS WITH NICK CARTER

NEW YORK (AP) - ABC News says Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff are the new co-anchors of ABC's "World News Tonight," replacing the late Peter Jennings.'cause I really like Woodruff and hate Vargas. The dual-anchor thing kinda surprised me; I figured it would be one or the other. We'll see how it goes.

No, it should not, according to some people. Take John Seigenthaler Sr., for instance. Wikipedia has an entry for him that says he was thought to be involved in the assassinations of both John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, according to a story on The New York Times.
