When I wish you a “ Merry Christmas ” or a “ Happy Holidays ” or a “ Happy Hanukkah ” I mean them equally sincerely. If you ’ re insulted by a sincere wish of happiness, then one of us is an asshole.

14) Where do you spend Christmas? Christmas Eve day it's at my housewith Dad's family, then in the evening we go to Grandpahanifords. On Christmas day, I spend half of it with Mom, half ofit with Dad, some in Monticello with Grandma and Grandpa Gregory (sometimes), and Granny's in the evenings. Making it toeveryone's house takes skill and careful planning. I have it downto an art.

"We got raised eyebrows even in-house at first, but the feeling was these timeless characters really needed a breath of fresh air that only the introduction of someone new could provide," says Nancy Kanter of the Disney Channel.

It may be that the late insanity coming from Howard Dean and John Murtha and John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi — oh, heck, the entire Democrat party minus Lieberman — are just a spasm of violent rhetoric marking the end of a political insurgency. The election in Iraq is going to happen in a week. And even Sunni groups that shunned the previous elections have recognized that this election is a turning point that they can ’ t afford to sit out:

(Paramount, 1954) -- "Holiday Inn" and the song "White Christmas" were such smash hits that Paramount re-made the film 10 years later as "White Christmas." Directed by the legendary Michael Curtiz from a script by Norman Krasna, Norman Panama and Melvin Frank. Starring Bing Crosby as Bob Wallace; Danny Kaye as Phil Davis; Rosemary Clooney as Betty Haynes; Vera Allen as Judy Haynes; and Dean Jagger as General Waverly. Crosby and Kaye are just out of the Army, and in hot pursuit of sisters Judy and Betty Haynes. The girls high-tail it for an inn in Vermont where they put on a variety show every Christmas for the guests. Only, the inn is owned by the boy's old commanding general. They have to help him raise the cash to save the inn while wooing the girls. Pure fluff, but pure enjoyment, too.

Did you hear? Israel's Magen David Adom (MDA - Red Star of David) organization has been allowed formal entry into the Red Cross/Red Crescent organization. The vote was 98-27 with 10 abstentions. According to AFP, who reported the story, "most of the hostile votes were from Arab and Muslim countries, in particular Syria." The vote approved a new red crystal emblem addition to the Red Cross and Red Crescent symbols.

* Today, Fitzgerald spent more than an hour at a law firm representing Viveca Novak, the Time magazine reporter who's a friend of Karl Rove's lawyer, and whose testimony is expected to be important in the case. As Salon's Tim Grieve noted, Novak reportedly "alerted Rove's lawyer to the fact that Rove had leaked Valerie Plame's identity to Matthew Cooper at a time when Rove wasn't" remembering "any such conversation and Cooper and Time were fighting to keep it secret."

Oh yeah, and the Rangers traded Alfonso Soriano today. So if my memory serves me right, the Rangers traded A-rod for Brad Wilkerson, Terrmel Sledge and a minor league pitcher. And I think they ’ re still paying part of the dickhead ’ s salary.

On the eve of the final day of these winter meetings, the Red Sox and Braves were intensifying talks on a trade that would send Red Sox shortstop Edgar Renteria to Atlanta in exchange for third base prospect Andy Marte. What was holding up the deal was money, with the Braves balking at paying the remaining $29 million of Renteria ’ s contract and the Red Sox unwilling to pay as much as half, Atlanta ’ s asking price, of the bill. A compromise, possibly somewhere in the middle, with the Braves paying $7.5 -8 million a season, was said to be in the works but was not expected to be reached before today.

Sex. It ’ s normal - it ’ s healthy. An institution that requires its members to abstain from sex is not. Jesus didn ’ t require celibacy from his disciples; and his relationship with Mary Magdalene was one of trust and intimacy, if not actual sex. I ’ m not talking “ Da Vinci Code, ” although Dan Brown ’ s novel is probably closer to the truth than the lies spun by the Catholic Church. The Church ’ s man-made ban on sex serves no spiritual or biblical purpose (and it ’ s just plain freaky).

At Les Blogs, the usually charming Mena Trott and the no-bullshit Ben Metcalfe came to blows, after Ben called out her speech on'civility in the blogosphere'as bullshit on the conference's IRC channel. Then, back online, Dave Winer wandered in to the fray with his usual unhelpful and patronising comments, prolonging what was, in reality, a pretty minor spat. So now it's a real Punch and Judy show, and has all the hallmarks of another great blogosphere drama. :-D

It's official; I have precisely jack shit to do for almost an entire month. What to do? * taps chin thoughtfully * I suppose I could dive into the stack of David Sedaris and Sylvia Plath next to my bed... or I could get started on that six pack... or I could slowly shrivel up and die of boredom...

As Steve points out, a lot of the funding from this PAC will come initially from the various lawsuits Mr. Schiavo has filed against dirtbags ranging from Loofah Bill, to members of Congress, to the Randall Terry/Pat Robertson/Jerry Falwell wacko brigade.
