When done right, politics is conducted as part of long term strategy, not short term tactics. If you don't deal with the short term stuff adequately, you never get to implement your long term strategy. But if you don't have...

Best Super Bowl ad: A few cracked us all up. But I can't remember any of them now, so they couldn't have been that great. My vote: The little Clydesdale trying to pull the giant sleigh. Wost Super bowl ad (s): Jackie Chan/Jay Mohr lame Diet Pepsi stunt double. And Godaddy.com, which had a mildly funny ad last year that was pulled after the game for being too racey. This year's was basically last year's old joke with "we can't show you the rest here, so come to our Web site" at the end. Boo.

: chrissty's mom's house. great company, great food, good commercials, the stoooones. very bummed that not only did the seahawks lose, but i also missed aaron neville perform the national anthem. actually enjoyed the game. really got into it. i might like football a tiny bit now.

2 things.1. Congrats to Bettis for getting that ring and going out like a champ. For shame on Detroit however, for whoring themselves out to him. Didn't exactly make Seattle feel like they had any support (even though I was rooting against them hardcore). 2. Above all else, I am thankful the Patriots weren't there to spoil my night. It was bad enough having to see the ass-ramming Tom Brady up there for the coin toss, but not having to watch the entire New England area get yet another hard-on about how great them and their teams are... well, for that I am thankful. Then again, should only be another few weeks before they start back with their Red Sox hard-ons. * sigh *

OST, Walk the Line: For an actor, Joaquin Phoenix is a very good singer, getting vocal performances in that are very close to Johnny Cash's original feel without copying him exactly. The same can be said for Reese Witherspoon as June Carter, and the backing band is very strong. Listening to the whole album from beginning to end is a bit much, though, because it's all well-worn Cash material without major changes to the arrangements.

(Should this stuff be spoiler-cut?) I swear to God, one of the Steelers was skipping when they first came out on the field. Nothing > Harrison Ford reading Dr. Seuss. AARRRGH what the fuck Seahawks reporter lady. "The only people who think [the Seahawks] can win is in this room." Kthxdie. Why are these teams sucking so badly? Desperately thrusting the ball over the goal line ≠ touchdown. For fucking serious. Yaaaay Rolling Stones. But, honestly, who in their right mind would sleep with Mick Jagger? Although I must say, he appears to be looking better these days... no, no, I take that back.

friday went and saw chelonia. very good. the second half was much better. then listened to depressing music w/v for two hours and then i was security at a party for an hour. it was rather enjoyablesaturday watched the AVS and RED WINGS. it was pretty spectaular. dinner got into a long argument about dinosaurs. then watched finally for the first time all the way through Monty Python and the Holy Grail. it was really funny and good i was a fan. As well as Jurassic Park 2 becuz the stupid movie store did not Jurassic Park 1. maybe next weekendsunday was "hw" day and the SUPER BOWL. i didn't really care about the teams but it was the super bowl so it had to be watched while consuming large quanities of pizza, chips, salsa and soda. peace out home fries

We saw Nanny Mcphee this weekend. It was fantastic. I'm going to say that Nanny Mcphee will be the best fun family movie of the year. It was funny and nice, a perfect mix for kids and adults -- just plain great. Emma Thompson did an amazing job as did the kids. 2π.

I just watched Elizabethtown. It's a Cameron Crowe film starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. I found it altogether enjoyable. Sort of what I expected, and.. well.. I liked it. I'm also feeling mildly sappy afterwards. Oh wells. I'll just have to crush it out later. I've been sick the last couple days, but it seems to be clearing up. I also have tomorrow (today, Monday) off work! My first day off in 11. Things are.. well, they are. I've been hanging out with Pam and Teej quite alot of late. Her new proximity is partly the cause. I also haven't played Wow in over a week. Laundry needs doing. Sleep needs sleeping. I need to kill something.. or maybe work out life.. or work on issues.. or maybe that whole wimmens thing. Who knows? - Zachary

Last night Cinecultist furthered our rampant girl-crush on singer Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley by attending her solo engagement at the Angel Orensanz Foundation performance. The converted church space where she performed -- along with M. Ward and in a one song cameo Conor Oberst -- on Norfolk was totally spectacular looking inside. Though the decrepit baroqueness may have influenced our movie associative thoughts during show.

In a not so surprising move, the Smashing Pumpkins have been reunited... well... sort of. Billboard.com is reporting that Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin have signed a management deal under the Pumpkins name. James Iha and original bassist D ’ arcy are both noticeably absent from the deal, as is fill-in bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur. The great bald one and his drummer are set to start recording their first new Pumpkins album in six years.

During the pre-game festivities, all of the Superbowl Mvps came out onto the field. Well, except two. Terry Bradshaw, who won 2 MVP awards and Joe Montana, who won 3, both declined to participate. Montana reportedly wanted to be paid $100,000 as an appearence fee. Without the NFL, you guys would probably have been cleaning out toilets for a living. You owe it to the sport that made both of you famous to be there. For the Game, you greedy bastards.

Name your top 20 List of Lust, in no particular order. Your neighbor or grade school teacher doesn't count. The list can be male, female, or mixed (????). They can be real life celebrities or characters in a movie or TV show. For example, you might want to gag Mariska Hargitay, while still lusting after Butchy Mcfabulous Olivia Benson. Saw The New World again yesterday. I hadn't realized I slept through most of Christian Bale's screen time. It was funny to hear my father-in-law say the movie romanticizes the Indians and my husband speak up. "I thought that too the first time but it's John Smith who romanticizes them. Nearly everything he says is contradicted by the movie at some point." I was so proud of him! I picked up on that during the first watching. But he and I know I pick up on things like that more often than he does.

Fascinating. Stephen Harper's cabinet has a liberal defector (David Emerson, Vancouver Kingsway, Minister of International trade), and Michael Fortier (Public works and government services), who doesn't even have a seat in the house of commons (he's not an elected MP). I had no idea the PM could appoint non elected people to the cabinet. Among other roles, he was the co-chair of the conservative election campaign. Locally, John Baird is president of the treasury board, and a host of other fairly expected names (Tony Clement, Peter Mckay, Stockwell Day, etc...) The first 2 names are the most surprising though.

I am helpless before the cuteness of hobbits. From this article. He then devoted years of his life to "The Lord of the Rings" and made fast friends with fellow hobbits Billy Boyd, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin. While he doesn't like to push his work on friends, Monaghan did give in to requests from Boyd and Wood while they were visiting over the holidays last year to see some episodes of "Lost." "They ended up watching it," he says, "and became really big fans. I get Billy calling me up, saying,'What's going to happen with this guy? What's down the hatch? What's the monster?'" Elijah sends me text messages anytime the show is on. Anytime there's a commercial break, he'll ask me a couple questions. "

I think the world is right when a seven year old boy can have the complete satisfaction of knowing that his all-time favorite football team won the super bowl. And when a fifteen year old girl can be 100% content with every aspect of her life.
