Of course this doesn't surprise me. South Park was born in 1992 when Matt Stone and Trey Parker produced an animated short called Jesus vs. Frosty (as in, the Snowman). Then, they hit the big-time when some Fox big-wig got them to make an animated Christmas card in which Jesus battled Santa Claus. Subsequently, other bigwigs at Comedy Central apparently mistook repetitious yuletide blasphemy for creativity and gave the duo big bucks to make South Park.

Even with seemingly the entire world huddled before the gates of Tom Cruise's compound, awaiting news of the birth of the Miracle Baby, Katie Holmes is able to escape through the estate's system of underground tunnels and emerge inside Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, where she wanders aimlessly, heavy with fake child. Reports a Defamer operative on Holmes'third documented Barneys trip in the past two weeks:

Angelina Jolie with Brad Pitt is in the desert state of Namibia where she plans to give birth to their first biological child and also contemplating on giving the child a Namibian name. Have you heard about Michael Douglas working hard to repair his relation with the Brangelina couple after GQ had this quote from him “ I don ’ t know about Brad Pitt, leaving that beautiful woman (Jennifer Aniston) to go hold orphans for Angelina. I mean how long is that going to last? ” Douglas blames GQ of misquoting his thoughts as he said in Monterey County Herald that he considers the couple to be his good friend.

What does surprise me is that Comedy Central, while claiming to place their talent "in a position to constantly break barriers and push the envelope," is kowtowing to Mecca. At the same time, one of Comedy Central's sister networks, MTV Europe is running full-page magazine ads mocking Christ's crucifixion in order to hawk Popetown, a new cartoon lampooning the Roman Catholic Church.

On his 22-count indictment of former Illinois governor George Ryan, the jury is in. And the mainstream media in Illinois are in a state of shock. Once the darling of the MSM for the Republican's democrat-style moratorium on the death penalty, now the governor must be tagged with the term "convicted felon." The governor's friend and apparent partner in crime, Larry Warner, was convicted on all twelve of the counts that applied to him, as well.

Britain has gone furthest. The latest law doubles the period during which a terror suspect can be held in custody without charge to 28 days. It was just 48 hours in 2001, and Prime Minister Tony Blair fought for an extension to three months.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is calling on the United Nations to consider new sanctions against Tehran when the Security Council meets next week to discuss the developing crisis. Blair is expected to support the call for a "Chapter 7" resolution, which could effectively isolate Iran from the international community.

Oh, I love the Easter Vigil Mass. < 3 Started outside; Monsignor lit a big cauldron full of fire, then lit the Easter candle from it. It's five feet tall. He told one of the shorter altar servers "Stand back-to-back with the candle." And now we know. X) Anyhow. Held candles all through the Exultet and the four or five readings. Mine burned down to a pancake; I blew it out when the paper holder started to burn.

Today ’ s employer of illegal immigrants does not have any of the hassles experienced by slave owners. The employer of illegals offers them a very small salary and no benefits. Which means such an employer never runs the risk of going cash-flow-negative on labor costs. They can adjust wages at will, because they will always find an illegal that is willing to accept the rate. This is the reason Cesar Chavez once disliked illegal immigration. If one set of illegals tried to “ strike ” for better wages, the company would simply replace them with new illegals that were willing to accept the pay rate offered to them.

Okay, I've complained twice now about live movies being on the Cartoon Network. It just doesn't seem to make sense, you know?... Now, I still feel that way. But, but, they 're bringing Saved by the Bell to Adult Swim. Again, live-action stuff on the Cartoon Network bothers me. But it's Saved by the Bell. I think the bastards have gotten to me. I almost like this idea.

Back in the seventies, Patrick Moore was one of the founders of the radical ecological-action group Greenpeace. Like most of us who decried everything the capital-e Establishment did in those days, he was strongly opposed to the building of nuclear power plants. It was a dangerous technology, we knew, and our certainty was buttressed by the disaster at Chernobyl in Ukraine and the near-disaster at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania. Furthermore, it was

Lucky Number Slevin. It's a pretty good movie. It's only an hour and fifty minutes long. Sir Ben Kingsley has been knighted, apparently. Bruce Willis is still a good cat. But most importantly, Lucy Liu is far better cast as a playful (and short) girly-girl. That was what made me so surprised.

The voices in Congress denouncing the prospect of a military attack on Iran, period, are in short supply right now. Yet as it happens, according to a nationwide poll jointly released by Bloomberg and the Los Angeles Times on April 13, the current inclinations of people in the United States are about evenly divided: "Forty-eight percent said they would support military action against Iran if it continues to produce material that can be used to develop a nuclear bomb, down from 57 percent in January. Forty percent oppose military action, up from 33 percent in January."

Looks like a good showing for our Hometown Washington Post in the Pulitzer Prize Contests, with the Post taking home four of the awards for their reporting in 2005. The Post took the Explanatory Journalism, Criticism, Investigative and Beat Reporting categories. For their coverage on the Jack Abramoff scandal, Susan Schmidt, James V. Grimaldi and R. Jeffrey Smith won the Investigate reporting Pulitzer. David Finkel won the explanatory journalism prize for his work on the US'attempts to bring democracy to Yemen. Robin Givhan won the Criticism Pulitzer for her coverage of the fashion industry. Last but certainly not least, Dana Priest won the Pulitzer for Beat Reporting, writing about the CIA's secret prisons for terror suspects.

Nobody, including Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and Ralph Reed, has done as much to align evangelicalism with hard-nosed partisan politics. Dobson has become a polarizing figure whose controlling perfectionism has caused him to bruise and batter even some of his friends.

Annie grew to love that Jessica Simpson/Nick Lachey show (what was that called?) and we watched Wildboyz & Jackass with equal parts desire and shame. Partially it was due to the low quality of Irish tv; there was one show – I think it was Kristie's Home Videos or something like that – which would, during late hours, intersperse cute videos of tots running into trees with clips of naked people walking around. They weren't even pornographic naked people; they were just naked people baking cookies, naked people playing tennis (ew), naked people in sneakers climbing a Mexican pyramid. Suffice it to say that the best stuff on Irish tv came from the good ole U.S. of A.

{ Via Gwenda Bond } RIP, Muriel Spark. See Jenny Davidson and Maud Newton for more thorough coverage. The general consensus seems to be that The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is her finest novel, but my favorite is Loitering with Intent, about a would-be novelist working for cranky old memoirists who finds her fiction appears to be coming true. Sometimes her humor can be too black for me (I have not yet made it through The Hothouse on the East River, and could not keep my copy of Memento Mori), but I love the precision and freshness of her prose.

And, of course, the reminisces. I have to admit, some of those didn't sound like Leo Mcgarry memories -- I suspect there was a bit of self-indulgence there and they threw in some John Spencer stories. I think we can all forgive it.

From Apple and Moses Martin (the children of actress Gwyneth Paltrow and singer Chris Martin) to Pilot Inspektor (the child of “ My Name Is Earl ” star Jason Lee), the naming of children has taken a turn for the absurd. , this film's as much a'what's going on'film as a who-dunnit. The cast is fantastic. Supporting roles include Morgan Freeman, Ben Kingsley, Stanley Tucci, Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello. I expected to be disappointed by Josh Hartnett and Lucy Liu, two actors whose work I've never cared for. That said, they didn't embarrass themselves. The film's plot is actually pretty predictable, but it's an enjoyable ride. Plus, the set design is gorgeous.

Yesterday's game was a nailbiter through and through up until the 8th, and truthfully, this was a game the Mets used to lose time and time again. The Brewers had the bases loaded in consecutive innings (2nd and 3rd) with none out and one out respectively against Brian Bannister, and the kid just bared down. Milwaukee had every chance to take this game, but just couldn't manufacture anything against Rick Maddux Lite. Xavier Nady hit another home run, as did Carlos Delgado. Delgado looked a bit
