Osama bin Laden speaks out this morning compliments of an audio tape played by Arab satellite TV al Jazeera, of course. According to US experts, preliminary tests show the tape appears to be authentic and it does appear to be the voice of bin Laden. Further testing of the tape will continue throughout the day.

The Washington Post reporter Ann Scott Tyson showed exemplary restraint in her article describing the recent approval of a three point battle plan for the Global War on Terror when she refrained from referring to Donald Rumsfeld as the "embattled" Secretary of Defense. While sincere in their statements of disatisfaction with Rumsfeld, I suspect those retired generals were goaded into making them by a hungry media pack looking to stir up controversy. So it may be significant that Ms. Tyson chose not to remind us of it, and concentrated on the story instead.

And the Mets'offense got going a little bit. Some of it came from sources you wouldn't expect. Ramon Castro had three hits, including the first home run by a Mets catcher this season. Endy Chavez had two hits, including a run batted in. But the big bats got it going, too. David Wright had a hit and scored twice. Carlos Delgado and Xavier Nady, two big sources of power this season, each homered, with Delgado crossing home three times. Overall, eleven hits for the Mets, which is a nice night. The only Mets starter not to get on base was Jose Reyes, who continues to struggle. Let's hope he can get back going soon.
