Iraqi Foreign Minister Zebari had an interview with Margaret Warner for Newshour with Jim Lehrer that offers some insight. The report of a cyanide attack on the New York City subway system was discussed on the CBS Evening News and NBC Nightly News, as was the search for missing Gis in Iraq and violence in Baghdad. Fox News Special Report focused on the congressional debate on Iraq, developments over Iran's nuclear program and status checks in Iraq.

It was a gratifying (albeit bittersweet) moment to watch my favorite NHL player, and long-time Philadelphia Flyer, Rod Brind'Amour finally hoist Lord Stanley's Cup above his head in triumph this evening, as the team he captains, the Carolina Hurricanes, defeated the scrappy Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Finals. Brind'Amour is a classy player who deserved this title, so congratulations are in order. I only wish he was wearing an Orange and Black sweater when he earned that elusive Cup.

While in the wilderness Apple was lead by John Sculley, the business man to Jobs ’ s technology savvy (some would argue). With Bill Gates stepping aside at Microsoft it could be viewed that the person taking over is Steve Ballmer – the business minded one. But is Steve Ballmer really the one taking over, or has Microsoft been planning this for some time and managed to build a new ‘ brain trust ’ already. I suspected that when Microsoft bought Groove that it was more for the people than for the product. With Ray Ozzie moving into the Chief Software Architect role that suspicion seems to be confirmed.

The summer of disappointment continues with Nacho Libre, though it's possible that my disappointment that Nacho Libre is merely pretty good is on par with my disappointment with Domino not being a stone cold masterpiece. That is to say, a sort of specialized disappointment unlikely to experienced by most audiences. Because I enjoyed Nacho Libre and laughed many times (especially, OMG, when Jables fought those little goat dudes), but Jack Black + Jared Hess + Mike White should = masterpiece in my book.

The enthusiasm many scientists seem to show for Al Gore's excellent but misguided propaganda film "An Inconvenient Truth" reflects poorly on the state of scientific thinking. I think it reveals the limitations we primates, even those primates high on the scientific food chain, have with mathematical constructs and allocation of risks, costs, and benefits.

I'd like to officially end on that note, but one last thing: if you loved The Da Vinci Code and can't wait to read more about Robert Langdon, you are probably tempted to read Dan Brown's novel "Angels and Demons". I don't recommend it, and I can't tell you how it ends because I quit reading with twenty pages to go, after one-too-many horrible, graphic murders in all-too-inventive ways. Deception Point, on the other hand, is not a Robert Langdon book, but it is definitely worth reading.

While the Mavericks still score, it ’ s not without slight concern. Michael Finley and Steve Nash are gone, so Dirk Nowitzki needs to score big throughout the season. He ’ s done it so far with 26.0 PPG, but even he slows down once in awhile. Dirk ’ s shot attempts are often forced and still attempts too many 3-pointers for a Power Forward. Dallas isn ’ t going to provide much support off the bench. Desagna Diop, Devin Harris and Jerry Powell are getting playing time. It ’ s far too inexperienced to trump powerhouses like San Antonio.

PR Week June 19, 2006 at 04: 24 PM This month, Rolling Stone ran an investigative feature claiming that Republicans used a systematic combination of voter disenfranchisement and fraud, centered in Ohio, to rob John Kerry of a win in the 2004 presidential election. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and son of liberal icon Bobby Kennedy, wrote the article, available, along with supporting research, at rollingstone.com. Kennedy spoke to Prweek about the story...... Prweek: Is there a next step? Kennedy: I've been meeting with attorneys... to devise a litigation strategy. Ira Winderman: "No, it's not over. Winning in Dallas remains a challenge, something the Heat couldn't do in the first two games or over the past four years... It would have been nice if someone would have stepped up more often to assist Wade, but Gary Payton again made a huge late shot and James Posey remains a hustling fool... Although his numbers were down and fouls were up, Udonis Haslem again provided solid defense against Dirk Nowitzki. With Posey then picking up where Haslem left off... Don't discount what Dallas learned from the loss. Expect plenty more isolations from Jason Terry against Jason Williams, as well as Josh Howard against Antoine Walker.

Today, Americans celebrate "Juneteenth" - when in 1865 slavery finally ended throughout the entire United States. Sadly, few people know that Juneteenth was a high water mark for African - Americans. Soon after that great day, the Democratic Party defeated the Reconstruction policies of the Republican Party, postponing the civil rights movement until the 1950s. An important fact which most history books ignore is that Abraham Lincoln's 1864 running mate was a Democrat, Andrew Johnson of Tennessee. And so after Lincoln's assassination, it was a Democrat who would be President of the United States for the first four years after the Civil War. That first President Johnson did all in his power to prevent African - Americans from experiencing Lincoln's "new birth of freedom."

I can't say enough about the cinematography and the actual making of this film. Politics and conspiracy aside (I'm not going to get into that at all; I'm not qualified) this was a brilliantly made film. The rapid scene changes towards the beginning -- the CUT TO between points of view -- were surprising and fast-paced, but worked perfectly and provided contrast with the rest of the film. The casting was excellent. Tom Hanks was exactly Robert Langdon, in every detail perfectly true to the book. Sophie Neveu was played by Audrey Tautou, another perfect casting match. Paul Bettany played the very creepy Silas, and did a marvelous job -- I still managed to feel some empathy for the character.

We start off with the wonderful Superman March that we all know and love – if you don't know what I'm talking about, just listen and you soon will – and move from there to some lovely underscore for flashback's to Clark's childhood (I think) and then on to big, set piece plane rescue and all its associated bombast. Ottman makes great use of a choir on several pieces to both sentimental and ominos effect (not simultaneosly, of course). And of course, Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor has a suitably menacing, yet playful, theme to announce his presence. In all, a rather delightful experience and one that I'll likely purchase once it becomes available (the 27th). Now if only I were this confident about the film.

So basically, I now find myself thinking that Woody may just pull two good films in a row out of his butt. Here's why... First, Woody realized that once you go Scarlett you never go back. H e knows a good thing when he sees it, and he was wise to hitch his wagon to Johansson's star once again. And this time he's given her a role that at least appears to be a whole lot more interesting than the whiny, needy temptress she played in'Match Point.'Second, Hugh Jackman -- so hot right now. His'X-men: The Last Stand'has already made like a gagillion dollars this summer, and everyone and their brother is rushing to cast him in their next project. And third, Scarlett Johansson. The pivotal moment of the match came in the 22nd minute when Japan goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi saved Darijo Srna's penalty, although Croatia were also breathing a sigh of relief when Atsushi Yanagisawa missed when it seemed easier to score early in the second half. The result left Japan rooted to the foot of Group F with one point and Croatia ahead only on goal difference in third place. It will hardly help the mood in either camp that both teams will be without key players for their third matches after Japan captain Tsuneyasu Miyamoto and Croatia's Robert Kovac collected their second yellow cards of the tournament.

I can actually see this one, although I can't imagine it lasting. Finally, there is photographic proof that Jim Carrey and Jenny Mccarthy are an item. This is them boarding a helicopter in Santa Monica to take them on a private date somewhere. The two have been a rumored item for many months now.

North Korea appeared close Sunday to test-firing a long-range missile capable of reaching the United States, prompting the White House to warn of an appropriate response and Japan to threaten a "fierce" protest to the United Nations. North Korea was silent on the issue but vowed to bolster its "military deterrent" in a burst of fiery rhetoric carried by its state news agency. A test launch of what is believed to be a Taepodong-2 missile would inflame a region already tense over the North's continuing nuclear weapons program. "There are signs" of an imminent missile launch, Jung Tae-ho, a spokesman at the South Korean president's office, told The Associated Press. He added that security officials were "closely watching the situation.

Perhaps. But he and his band mates are also about a new world: one of the most creatively vigorous strains of underground music. Initially dubbed "freak folk," it looked like a trend of the moment a couple of years ago, when two California artists, Joanna Newsom and Devendra Banhart, attracted attention with charmingly shaggy, deceptively whimsical, largely acoustic albums.

With all due respect to Gregory Helms'former WWE character, that quote is holding true this season. The Carolina Hurricanes won Game Seven of the Stanley Cup finals to bring the Cup, as well as the first professional sports title, to Raleigh and the state of North Carolina. For guys like Rod Brind'Amour, Glen Wesley, Bret Hedican, and Doug Weight to get their first Cup was a site to be seen. Especially for Weight, who could barely hold up his should after a clean seperation. The look on the young guys faces like Cam Ward, Eric Staal, and Andrew Ladd showed that the future was now for the Canes.

But what I can ’ t stop thinking about was the Rufus Wainwright concert I attended last Thursday, June 15 at Carnegie Hall. On June 14 & 15, Rufus Wainwright recreated Judy Garland ’ s 1961 Carnegie Hall concert. It far surpassed my expectations. Rufus sang his heart out and he really showed off his pipes and showmanship. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that I recognized many of the tunes. I just didn ’ t know the titles. In short, the show was fantastic. I gave him a spontaneous standing O and I am extremely stingy with those.
