Fourth, because our new Presiding Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, appears to be willing to walk apart from the rest of the Anglican Communion in order to maintain the present direction of the Episcopal Church. While she values our relationships with other Anglican Churches, she is wary of letting them dictate policy to us. But the Windsor Report does ask us to cease moving in certain directions unless a new consensus develops in the whole Anglican Communion. Her words and deeds will be scrutinized closely by other Anglican leaders to see if she wants us to pay the price for walking together.

Which, of course, forces us to say that it seems to come down to Dick Cheney's world -- his vision. There's technically no problem with having a powerful vice president. But what is too powerful? And what is the true nature of the power-sharing between Bush and Cheney? And I'm posing this as serious question. Suskind says that some intel and counterrrorism professionals refer to Cheney as "Edgar" -- as in Edgar Bergen the ventriloquist. The implication, of course, is that Bush is the dummy (as in the toy). It's all nice and fun to make those kind of jabs. But what are the real-world implications of this, in terms of actual accountability in this administration? I think those are the more intriguiging questions to pursue.

The United States Supreme Court issued a decision on wetlands yesterday whose main virtue is that it could have been much worse. It sided with two developers who want to build on endangered wetlands, but the court's conservatives could not muster the fifth vote they needed for a very restricted view of the Clean Water Act. Still, the signs are ominous. Right now, Justice Anthony Kennedy, the swing vote in the case, is all that appears to stand in the way of gutting critical environmental protections.

Last night I went with some friends to see Inconvenient Truth at the Globe Cinema. It was pretty interesting although for most of us aware of global warming issues, not a whole lot of new stuff. It would have been way better if it didn't have Al Gore. I just can't trust him. I know he's not lying about global warming, but he has this cloud of insincerity about him. He looks off into the distance like he's going to let a tear fall, but then he's tough enough to truck on. I recommend checking the documentary out, but I still don't recommend voting for Al Gore if he runs for president again.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt should be banned from Namibia, say charity campaigners. Namibia's National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) branded the couple "colonial overlords" and accused them of taking over the African country when Shiloh Nouvel was born this month. An NSHR spokesman said: "To shut down a national border so she can give birth in peace is a massive abuse of power." The human rights campaigners claim Angelina and Brad "used heavy-handed and brutal tactics" to persuade the Namibian government to agree to their demands. Meanwhile, Angelina has confessed she was "terrified" while giving birth to her daughter. The'Tomb Raider'star has spoken out about the delivery of Shiloh Nouvel and her immediate worries after childbirth.

Cam Ward, their 22-year-old goalie, was named the Conn Smythe winner as the most valuable player in the playoffs. If more games were on stations other than the Outdoor Life Network (OLN), maybe more people would watch. NBC carried the last five games of the Stanley Cup Final (the NHL surprisingly dropped the "s" from "Finals"), but with hockey hidden on OLN the entire season, few could get into the deciding games.

After months of promises, Sirius Satellite Radio has finally launched an online stream of the Howard Stern show. I have long suspected that Sirius was holding back such a service because streaming the show online could disincent people from buying satellite receivers, and could also make life easier for those looking to record and distribute the show as Mp3s. But the biggest reason for the delay could have been that making the show available online would make people start to wonder why they were buying satellite recievers and paying Sirius to keep its machines in orbit in the first place, if the Internet can deliver the show more cheaply.

I think him and Aaron Lennon could be quite a formidable double act ….. bit like flies buzzing around some juicy meat! The boxheads are 1 up against the hock and spit boys from Ecuador. But if you want to read a native Brooklyn boy's thoughts on the project -- most recently bringing aboard celebrity architect Frank Gehry -- read this piece in Slate by novelist Jonathan Lethem. Not only is it well-written and solidly argued, it taught me perhaps more than I wanted to know about what he calls "Brooklyn's Trojan Horse."

The blurb for The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon makes me think I should have found out about this novel sooner, and with news that the project is heading towards film production and Natalie Portman may take a role, is suggesting I should read it sooner rather than later.

It's possible that Democrats could, as they did during the 2002 midterms, try to focus on the economy and refuse to make Iraq an election issue. Even though the civil war in Iraq is intensifying, Bush's PR performance after the killing of Zarqawi has brought the president a rebound of sorts — at least with the media. Meanwhile, Dems may rant and rave about Iraq, but they can't agree on what to do about it. Four Democratic senators — Jack Reed, Carl Levin, Dianne Feinstein and Ken Salazar, with support from Hillary Clinton, Pat Leahy, and Minority Leader Harry Reid — have introduced a non-binding "sense of the Senate" resolution asking Bush to begin a phased redeployment out of Iraq by the end of this year. But the measure doesn't say how fast the drawdown should go.
