In general, it was excellent - lots of swashbuckling, swordfighting, and running about. The special effects are amazing, the Flying Dutchman looks completely believable yet fantastic. Johnny Depp rules, and Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are respectable. and I { heart } Jack Davenport entirely too much, he is an adorable and funny man.

I went and saw "A Scanner Darkly" on Friday, and I was really surprised at how much I liked it. I went for aesthetic reasons - the film is animated in ways similar to "Waking Life" (my favorite animated movie ever) - but I left with a true appreciation for Philip K. Dick and his novel. Robert Downey Jr. stole the show, but Woody Harrelson, Wynona Rider and Keanu Reeves all chipped in solid performances. The story was adapted to the screen by Linklater, and he did an excellent job of creating this future society run by Substance D. I suggest seeing it at the theater, but it's not showing at many places (Loews and the Manor, that's it) .... it's worth the price of admission for sure.

Not being a big Discovery Channel watcher, I probably never would have known about Global Warming: What You Need to Know, with Tom Brokaw, which premiered last night. However the other day when I saw that the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works issued a press release denouncing it, I knew I had to watch. It's gotten to the point where I don't expect the GOP to express anything but Bushco winger propaganda, so I'm not even going to comment on my tax dollars being used to comment on a tv show, but if you want you can read more about the appropriateness of that here and here.

- family visit was fun. Did historical stuff with Mom, beading with Mom and Cathy, a couple of movies, including An Inconvenient Truth (not bad, Al Gore certainly has gotten his sarcasm on)... Oh, and ran into a slew of people. Ready? Thursday at the Prudence Crandall Museum in Canterbury: Ashley Venturi, whom I haven't seen since graduation. Friday at Niantic Cinema: The Priest family with Andrea. Saturday at Ann Taylor: Amy (?) Project-o instructor from way back (obviously she didn't recognize me, but I figure it still counts). Anyway. Nice, fun visit. Good food (sushi, Franks, Village Bake House ~ yum yum yum). Miss the people. I like hanging out with them. However, Mom will be in Buffalo in a month and then there will be more family hang-outs.

Kiefer Sutherland will be headlining as the voice of Raistlin Majere. Other case members will include Michael Rosenbaum (Justice League's Flash) as Tanis Half-elven, Lucy Lawless as Goldmoon, Michelle Trachtenberg at Tika Waylan, and Jason Marsden as Tasslehoff Burrfoot. one more day left in NYC. i wish i had longer. i'm having a blast hanging out with brian and gwen. lots of amazing vegan restaraunts and fun bars. saturday was siren music festival at coney island where art brut and stars played and yesterday we saw dead meadow play in this HUGE empty pool in brooklyn. both shows were rad. today i think is going to be a bit more low key and we 're just going to hang out and then back to cleveland tomorrow morning.

Today's New York Times contains an article about the widespread criticism of remarks that Alaska Senator Ted Stevens made in opposition to a bill that would enforce net neutrality. The article is entitled Senator's Slip of the Tongue Keeps on Truckin'Over the Web. That makes it sound like he made a speech production error and chose the wrong word or mangled his syntax. That isn't what happened.

The Mets put up an 11-spot at Wrigley on Sunday Night, the biggest inning in team history, to clean up a mess made by El Duque in the first two innings. It involved 2 grand slams by Carlos Beltran and Cliff Floyd, and a 2 run homer by Pretty David Wright. David Wright celebrated this feat with 2 double stuff Oreos and a refreshing glass of 1% milk. He then went to late night mass. Had the Red Sox done this, they ’ d be convinced they should get the next 79 wins free.

It started inauspiciously enough as Woodward flied out to center and Beltran hit a grounder to second baseman Todd Walker. The tin-gloved Walker bobbled the ball for a second, and a hustling Beltran reached base on the error. Delgado and Wright followed with soft singles and Cliff Floyd came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. The left-handed Marshall got ahead of Floyd, but Cliff battled and managed to launch an outside pitch to left field that the wind carried for a grand slam that put the Mets up 6-5. Xavier Nady followed with a walk, and Marshall's night was over.

I worked some and cleaned lots in anticipation of having a coach stay with us. Watched the races today. Ok, I slept for the final 40 laps, but I was REALLY tired. I want to smack Ryan Newman upside the head for messing with my man Kasey. He even screwed with Jeff Gordon some, too. I wasn't heartbroken that he screwed Tony Stewart, but I don't care either way in that one. We just kept thinking of how Seinfeld used to say "Newman." Sort of makes you laugh, doesn't it?

Kaif excuses herself for a moment so that she can freshen up. When Julia Roberts does not come down for a long time, Grant walks up to her hotel room only to find Roberts with her boyfriend. Akashay being a nice guy poses as a waiter and Anil Kapoor, the fiancé, is annoyed to see that the waiter is not in his uniform. Hugh Grant explains the absence of uniform and clears up the remains of last tea and walks out dejected while Julia is too stumped to utter a word.
