It's so freaking hot today !!!!! And I read in the news that a man in Bakersfield died of heat stroke while he was working in his yard. Terrible !!!! And since it's hot, there's gon na be more of a chance that we'll be having power outages across California, from the Bay Area, to Los Angeles to San Diego. I hope there will be no power outage when I'm at Comic Con tomorrow. That would be terrible plus everyone will definitely panic. But I do hope that there will be no power outages at my house or Melanie's house or Comic Con. So anyways, I read about this in the news right now. I hope it will get cooler as soon as it becomes autumn. Unless Santa Ana conditions will make autumn hot as well.

Opening in third was M. Night Shyamalan's "Lady in the Water," an adult fairy tale from Warner Bros. that took in $18.2 million. Starring Paul Giamatti as an apartment manager who discovers a water nymph (Bryce Dallas Howard) living beneath his complex's swimming pool, the movie was the weakest debut for writer-director Shyamalan in a string of wide releases since 1999 that included the blockbusters "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs."

Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson's "My Super Ex-girlfriend," a 20th Century Fox comedy about a superhero taking revenge against the boyfriend who jilted her, debuted at No. 7 with $8.7 million.

People like Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom remind me that Western men can be hot too. It's 11pm and I'm not done packing. Oops. Tomorrow I'm off to Australia so you won't be hearing much from me for at least a week. I'm so incredibly nervous right now. @ _ @ I hope I can make it there in one piece.

Also, Floyd Landis continued America ’ s dominance in The Tour-de-france as he rode to victory down the on the cobblestones of the Champs-elysées. Following Lance Armstrong ’ s seven consecutive victories, Landis came from no where in the last couple stages of the tour including one of the most remarkable time trials ever. Landis won the race with a lead of 57 seconds on Spaniard Oscar Pereiro of Caisse d ’ Epargne to bring victory back to the USA. Let ’ s just hope the French don ’ t start with drug accusations of Landis as they did with Armstrong as American ’ s dominated what is mainly considered a European sport.

Not a whole lot happened today. Watched tv and Tim and I decided we would go to the movies. Had a heck of a time trying to figure out which one to go see. There are so many to choose from. He let me choose so of course... I chose a chic flick. The Devil Wears Prada. It was a great book and of course.. a very cute movie! Meryl Streep rocked as Miranda Priestly and of course Anne Hathaway... well.. she's just hot! * L * We also saw Over The Hedge. That was a reallllly cute movie! I was cracking up the whole time.

. Remarkably, the only reason that the Natwest Three were spared from the Enron Task Force demanding their incarceration in Houston's downtown Federal Detention Center pending their trial was the intervention of UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who assured an angered British Parliament a week ago that the bankers would be released on bail.

Torontoist's famous person is a strangely dykey Wayne Gretzky, their cause is hate (they 're against it), and their fact: their National Film Board makes some wackily great animation.

Last night I went to the Counting Crows/Goo Goo Dolls concert. Good times. "Mama called, she said you can't sing. Mama called, she said give the mic back to Johnny ...." Oh yeah... and before the concert, Tina and I went to Swiss Chalet. I had never been there before. It was decent. The garlic cheese load bread we had for an appetizer was AMAZING! We probably had some kickin'breath after that, but we went to Target and bought gum. hahahahah

Last night I curled up in bed with my two little chickadees and watched "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." I hadn't seen it in ages, although I'd been to see SPAMALOT on Broadway and nearly wet myself laughing. Anyway the kids LOVED it, especially my son. I find it really satisfying that my children love Monty Python so much, because it was such a major force in my childhood. My brother and I used to recite whole scenes verbatim when we were my kids'age. Sure enough, when I came down this morning my son was singing about "Brave Brave Sir Robin", imitating the "Knights who say Ni", and laughing about the Killer Rabbit. I feel the same way as when the kids enjoy books I loved as a kid. It's a link between my childhood, back in the Stone Age, and their 21st Century experience.

I'm convinced the boy my sister is dating is going to be the one she marrys .... It's just too natural. I don't know how to explain it. She asked me to make her a mixed CD for him. Now I'm obsessed with "Do You Remember?" By Jack Johnson. It's so adorable. I smell like Ralph Lauren. Yum.:]

Its Open Sunday at "The Open Championship" in Liverpool, England today. The British Open is the world's golf championship. We are down to Sunday. It is the final round. The last two groups have Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Ernie Els, and Chris Dimarco. I think Tiger Woods will win amongst this group. Sergio tends to fall apart in the final round of a major. Erniehad an injury to his knee. Until you win on your own, I can't select someone that comes back from an injury. Chris Dimarco hasn't won a major tournament. While Tiger's father died back in may and he didn't practice before the US Open, he obviously has practiced hard since then. He looked great at the Western Open. Until someone shows me something different, I think I'll take Tiger Woods.

AP - Saddam Hussein was hospitalized Sunday and fed with a tube on the 17th day of a hunger strike to ensure he was healthy enough to continue with his trial, the chief prosecutor said. The procedure came as the ex-leader's troubled trial nears a verdict that could lead to his hanging.

One Moment in Time - July 21, 2006/Del Mar Fairgrounds/The Flaming Lips Concert I loved this shot because they had a screen in front of the stage that was (obviously) translucent. The silhouette is Wayne Coyne, the lead singer. I just love it, because he looks ready to blow everyone's minds (which he did). The entire day I had no idea what to expect, and the moments before the show are the only part that can really be put into words.

Last night: - saw A Scanner Darkly with jodi and stacey - loooove that animation - the story of the movie made us wan na do hardcore drugs - but that was probably the opposite reaction we were supposed to have - then we went to some kinda party at greg's - did nt really know anyone, drank, watched beer pong, made a faulty attempt at hula hooping in the backyard - left sort of early and feasted upon t-belltonight: - I SAW FIONA APPLE AND SHE IS ALL KINDS OF Awesommmme !!!!! - and damien rice is cute and tiny and IRISH, mmph! - my pictures won't come out very welloh i love concerts

There was a bit of confusion over the museum entry (shared with the Science Fiction Museum which we would visit later), but we got our interactive headphone sets and viewed exhibits about the history of the Seattle music scene, Jimi Hendrix, the guitar, and many others. I'm sure my friend Mike at work would love this place. They wouldn't allow any photos unfortunately. The weekend crowd prevented me from trying out most of the interactive exhibits, but they seemed more geared toward non-musicians anyway.

“ Whether you follow or avoid the trends of popular culture, social instigators like Dan Brown are there to bring our collective attention back to something we may otherwise have missed. Before The Da Vinci Code, the Mona Lisa, the Madonna of the Rocks, and the Last Supper were paintings we ’ d always known about but never really looked at properly. Simply by adding a little intrigue, some clues hidden in the symbolism of a painting, and the promise of a treasure hunt, an artist who died centuries ago captured the imagination of twenty-first century readers.

Peter Jackson's "King Kong" has everything .... that is wrong with Hollywood today contained in one movie. It had too many storylines about characters I didn't give a shit about, plotlines that led the cast to a remote island that they had no business travelling to, a screenplay seemingly written by an infant, and actors with skills so lacking that they don't deserve to be in bad porno. The whole mood of the movie seemed inconsistent. Jokes were inserted at inappropriate times, choppy dialogue was overpresent, and the music changed so often I didn't know how to feel: sad, then happy? These are only three grains of sand in my metaphorical vagina. It equate this movie to a retarted child falling down a flight of stairs. FUCK YOU, PETER JACKSON!

This morning on Meet the Press, host Tim Russert was again tuned into the Bush Administration's nefarious designs, and his questions reflect that. He asked White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten if the Bushies wanted Israel to obliterate Hezbollah. Bolten said that Israel was entitled to a self-defense and that we support them in that. Russert also tried to grasp the logic of the President's stem cell position, recycling the 2001 argument that allowing experiments on existing lines of stem cells is the logical equivalent of killing more embryos.

Of the approximately 7 songs he played throughout the movie, one was the Smashing Pumpkins'"1979". Now, we all know how much KK loves the Pumpkins... but it was a little weird. It actually felt much like I was watching the "1979" music video, alas a bald Billy Corgan was not riding in the back of Dante's car singing along.

RANKING THE SNL GIRLS (1) Tina Fey (with glasses, always with glasses). She's not the funniest, but she's got the glasses. So hot. And she's the head writer. Smart. (2) Amy Poehler. She's the funniest. And she's kinda hot. (3) Maya Rudolph. She's kinda hot and kinda funny. But I'm not sure how to feel about the fact that she plays all the black female parts. It's kinda weird. (4) Rachel Dratch. It's not like I don't like her, but I feel like most of her comedic value stems from the fact that she's kinda funny looking. But she does do a great Debbie Downer.

Last night I sat 3 movies away namely: Sixth Sense, The Lake House, and House of Wax. My sis was driving me nuts when I was watching Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock magically sending each other letters over a mailbox that bridges time (approximately 2 years). She reminded me of how OBSESSED I was with Keanu Reeves, and how crazy I was of him that I had to buy a copy of Speed and Devil's Advocate. I remembered sneaking in the latter because it contained adult scenes. Really, papa, wouldn't you have watched it with me? hehe! As with House of Wax, well, I never thought Paris Hilton's character would die in a freaky way. That is sooo not her. Yun lang. Bow.

A late escape attempt by Discovery Channel may have overcooked Robbie Mcewen, as Credit Agricole's Thor Hushovd easily outsprinted Davitamon-lotto's sprint king to take the final stage of the 2006 Tour de France. CSC's Stuart O'grady, recovering from a fractured spine suffered early in the race, took 3rd on the day.

But, again, how serious are they about the important issues (national security and the economic and pragmatic mess of Social Security)? Much of the left ’ s message -- even outside the realm of the hard left -- could be boiled down to something into a less-than-cogent anti-bush sentiment. The Democrats have a huge opportunity to take back political control of the United States over the next few years, but they won ’ t do it with people like Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean. Whether they understand it or not, on a national level, their hopes are more with Hillary Clinton and the struggling Lieberman -- people that non-activist citizens can see as being reasonable on national security and offering a real option to the Republicans ’ economic and social policies.

The Venom shot is clearly Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) and not Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire). This image also shows him with really sharp teeth as we would expect Venom to be. In the background it appears the setting is a church. I would assume this scene is occurring just after Peter fights off the symbiote as shown in the trailer.

Derek Jeter sighed when the question was posed to him yesterday. He first heard it a few weeks ago, but for the second time this season there was a buzz among talk radio and other Yankees observers as to why the captain hasn't "spoken out" in defense of his struggling teammate Alex Rodriguez.

IT IS NOT SELF-DEFENCE. The crisis did not begin with the capture of two Israeli soldiers. It is part of the larger Middle East conflict. It started with the expulsion of two-thirds of the Palestinian population in 1948, and it was exacerbated in the 1967 war when Israel occupied the West Bank and Gaza. “ An underlying reason that years of U.S. diplomacy have failed and violence in the Middle East persists is that some Israeli leaders continue to create facts by building settlements in occupied territory ”, stated former President Jimmy Carter (Washington Post, November 26, 2000). The violence that we witness today is a result of Israel ’ s desire to enforce its occupation. It is not self-defence.

In the midst of the torrent of tripe attacking Israel for defending itself, it is nice to see someone pointing out the obvious. Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's former prime minister, clears the air of the noise coming from the faculty lounges and trendy dinner parties, from people who are not worried about being killed by Iranian rockets. (I exclude from this list the open anti-semites and terror advocates.)

Got a few games for it. Tetris DS, Sega Casino, Meteos & Mario Kart DS, all of which are very good. The real gem, however, is New Super Mario Bros, which is by far the most enjoyable Mario game since Super Mario World 2: Yoshi ’ s Island.

Christine Nelson showed up at the Cedar Rapids rally with a Kerry-edwards button pinned on her T-shirt; Alice Mccabe clutched a small, paper sign stating "No More War." What could be more American, they thought, than mixing a little dissent with the bunting and buzz of a get-out-the-vote rally headlined by the president?
