With apologies to my son (who can actually write poetry). We had a great weekend and I ’ m joyous. We ’ re watching the celebrity roast of William Shatner on Comedy Central (really funny and appropriately tasteless). I ’ m so happy that I ’ m tempted to pee on a stick and find out if I ’ m having a manic episode (just kidding).

Britney Spears got a warm reception for her surprise appearance at the Teen Choice Awards. The same probably wo nt be said about Kevin Federline's big debut performance.

I was taking a break from blogging during the week when Ned Lamont edged out Joe Lieberman in the Democratic primary for Senator in Connectituct, so I didn't have a chance to comment at the time. But I'm not convinced it was the "political earthquake" that Lieberman's opponents in the blogosphere (the so-called netroots) and elsewhere proclaimed.

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning. Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others. If you 're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic. Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet. The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility. Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way. If you 're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art. Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

Nick Lachey took home the choice love song award for his single,'What's Left of Me'during Sunday night's Teen Choice Awards. During his acceptance, a clip from his music video ran, showing girlfriend Vanessa Minillo. Onstage Lachey joked, "I just want to start about by saying... awkward? A little bit." Later, his ex-wife Jessica Simpson, who co-hosted the show with rumored boyfriend Dane Cook, won for choice breakout female star in a movie for'The Dukes of Hazzard'. Wrapping up the show was a performance by Kevin Federline, introduced by his wife Britney Spears, who told the crowd: "This show has been very good to me and my career over the years. And I'm hoping that it will be as good to our next performer." Read more.

Today for some inexplicable reason I actually got up early. Meaning at like 9-ish. But I read some, then went on a short, scenic bike ride with my dad, which was very nice. When I got back home I practiced some and read some more, and then I ended up going over to Kari's house. We messed around with Dave for a while before Catherine showed up and then we watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Everything about that movie is just kick-ass beyond belief! It is so cool. After the movie we had a yummy dinner that Kari's mom made us and sat around on her back porch and just talked for a while. Good times.

1) Snakes on a Plane earned $15.3 million its opening weekend, putting it atop the box office chart. But since that total included more than a million dollars in revenue generated from its Thursday night sneak preview, its actual weekend tally was only good for second place, behind Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Only a month after winning the British Open, Tiger Woods won the PGA Championship on Sunday to take his 12th career major. With that achievement, Woods became the first player to win the PGA Championship twice on the same course, the first player in history to go consecutive years winning at least two majors, and the second most successful golfer in history. Only Jack Nicklaus, with 18 majors championships, has won more times than Tiger.

Since childhood, I've dreamed of having at my fingertips a reservoir of meaningful rock and roll albums played by women. From 2001 to 2004, females accounted for more than 50% of all record sales in the United States. This was attributed to the success of artists such as Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Jewel, the Dixie Chicks, Sarah Mclachlan, Sheryl Crow and Mariah Carey. Women want to listen to women sing - just a fact of life.

The proverb "Cleanliness is next to Godliness," a common phrase that describes humanity's high opinion of being clean. Purposes of cleanliness include health, beauty and to avoid the spreading of germs. If your hands have any kind of skin cut or infection, wash hands with an anti bacterial soap. Thoroughly wash with hot, soapy water all surfaces that come in contact with raw meat, poultry, fish, and eggs before moving on to the next step in food preparation. Consider using paper towels to clean kitchen surfaces.

According to Richard Macmanus, Windows Live General Manager George Moore told an audience at Microsoft's Teched 2006 conference in New Zealand yesterday that Windows Live Spaces (formerly MSN Spaces) is "now the largest blogging service on the planet," and his assertion is causing a bit of a stir. Microsoft says there are 72 million Spaces in existence, but former Microsoftie Robert Scoble says maybe that's so, but are they really all blogs? The trouble is that if there's any Republican out there with a hope of running and winning in'08, he or she is going to have to distance themselves from the current administration and demonstrate that they really, really mean it when they say they 're for smaller government and fiscal responsibility. ("No, we really mean it this time.") This was Hagel's shot. Next week it will be Rudy Giuliani, followed by Newt Gingrich, then Mitt Romney, and, for all we know, Teddy the Wonder Lizard.

On the down side, fee-for-service plans usually involve more out-of-pocket expenses. Often there is a deductible, usually of about $200, before the insurance company starts paying. Once you've paid the deductible, the insurer will kick in about 80 percent of any doctor bills. You may have to pay up front and then submit the bill for reimbursement, or your provider may bill your insurer directly.

, starring Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel, was really quite good. Not one of those films that stays with you. Not a masterpiece. But really enjoyable, nevertheless. It's an old story: childhood lovers, separated by fate, reunite but must face the cruelties of society and a powerful and evil betrothed. Regardless, this was a decent vehicle for Edward Norton, with his dark piercing eyes. I'm not sure I was able to accept Paul Giamatti as a police inspector, though. He's much more the distracted crazed type. The independent and comedy film type. I've always liked him as well. I didn't see him in

Last night I hosted a BBQ and poker party at my house, but at 10 o'clock I had to turn on the William Shatner roast on Comedy Central. I love roasts to begin with, but what better target could you have than William Shatner? It was brilliant, as expected. The young comics - Jeffrey Ross, Patton Oswalt, Greg Geraldo - were all funny as usual, but the night belonged to Betty White (no, I'm not kidding), who was hysterical, and George Takei from Star Trek. Roasts are not for the faint of heart, the jokes are raunchy and definitely not politically correct, but those two went above and beyond. Still, the line of the night, as far as I'm concerned, came from Lisa Lampanelli:

While most artists (or, probably more accurately, their record labels) rushed to be included on itunes, by far the dominant source of legal music downloads, some -- like the Beatles, Bob Seger, Metallica, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kid Rock, Garth Brooks, and Radiohead -- kept conspicuously away. Some of the reasons make sense, I suppose: The Beatles'Apple Corps'ongoing legal tensions with Apple Computers over, you know, apple-ness. Garth Brooks'(eyeroll) exclusivity agreement with Wal-mart (eyeroll, gag) -- although he refuses to have his music sold even on Wal-mart's legal download site. But Seger's camp and Kid Rock's people cite a different reason: They don't like how itunes supposedly destroys the sanctity of The Album.

I think part of the reason is where I work. One of the stock guys, Bill, reminds me so much of Professor Snape, and I'm not talking about Alan Rickman, I'm talking about good old Severus Snape, that when I'm working, it's just like "Can't concentrate! Must think about Professor Snape." And what's even more uncanny is that I found out he teaches a couple classes at one of the colleges in my city. Freaking weird. Coincidence? I think not. And I guess it doesn't help out that I have one of the biggest crushes on him. And he's not even cute. I like him for who he is. (Sorry, Danny, I know you 're going to read this. But it's true, he does also remind me of you. But don't worry, I still love you.)

Posters of Kate Moss reprising her role as the face of Calvin Klein Jeans have sprung up all around New York City. I happen to walk by a wall in Nolita plastered with three shots of her – and no matter how you feel about her personal life (she ’ s recently become engaged to her drug-abusing beau, Pete Doherty), you have to admit, girl looks good. She still is one of my favorite models and these photos are proof that she still has “ it ”. I think she looks absolutely lovely in a neo - Brigitte Bardot sort of way.

Network news: it's the story that just keeps giving. Today the Times takes a long look at the increased level of network news competition in anticipation of Katie Couric's splashy-yet-deliberately-unsplashy debut as the anchor of the CBS evening news. NBC is hanging gargantuan banners of Brian Williams outside of the CBS studio (a technique taken straight from the New York Post) while Williams blathers on about the "anchor-viewer relationship"; ABC's Charlie Gibson is being marketed as "Your Trusted Source," which hearkens back to the late Peter Jennings, whose slogan was "Trust is Earned." Blah trust blah blah trust blah.

Daniel Byman and Kenneth Pollack's editorial in Sunday's Washington Post prompts some questions that I have not seen discussed elsewhere. Why have we not seen the long columns of refugees in Iraq that are typical of civil conflicts? What would it take to cause massive flows of refugees? In particular, would the removal of US forces cause Iraqis to throw some possessions in suitcases and start walking for the border? Who would move, and where would they try to go? What would be the consequences if hundreds of thousands or millions of civilians attempted to walk into Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, or Kuwait?
