WASHINGTON (AP) -- Nonlethal weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before being used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday. The object is basically public relations. Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions from others about possible safety considerations, said Secretary Michael Wynne. "If we 're not willing to use it here against our fellow citizens, then we should not be willing to use it in a wartime situation," said Wynne. "(Because) if I hit somebody with a nonlethal weapon and they claim that it injured them in a way that was not intended, I think that I would be vilified in the world press." read the whole article here

was good and surprisingly moving), or maybe something by Upton Sinclair. His books seem interesting to me and he spent most of his life in Monrovia, California, the next town over from where I grew up. Okay, enough about books. Today I spent some of my paycheck money (which I got on Saturday) on "Amputechture" by The Mars Volta and the second season of The Office on DVD (both came out today). I'll also get Cooking Mama and Harvest Moon DS for my Nintendo DS Lite when they 're released sometime this week. So yeah, it seems I'll be busy this week with work and relaxation when I'm not working. Sounds pretty good!

It has been a while since I have watched a movie. Last Saturday, Raymund, Tere and I caught "The Devil Wears Prada". I have always loved Anne Hathaway since her Pricess Diaries days. Meryl Streep was so convincing as Miranda. "

In 2004, the University of Maryland Program on International Policy Attitudes issued a study, "The Separate Realities of Bush and Kerry Supporters." It reported that 72 percent of Bush supporters believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction even after the U.S. Iraq Survey Group had definitively concluded that it had none. Seventy-five percent of Bush supporters believed that Saddam Hussein had been providing help to al Qaeda; 55 percent believed that the 9/11 Commission had proved that point, though the commission's report had disproved it and Bush had been forced to deny it. The social scientists conducting the survey observed that respondents held these beliefs because they said the Bush administration and conservative media had confirmed them.

Anna Nicole Smith's son died. The pretty decent looking one with braces who would appear on the show. He died of a massive heart attack. He always seemed embarassed by his mother on the show. Poor guy.

One of my new favourite series is Naomi Novik's "The Dragon Temeraire" series. Thus far consisting of three books (though the author has promised at least six), the series is a historical fantasy set in the Napoleonic era, in a world in which dragons are domesticated by all nations and used as beasts of war. Beautifully written, exhaustively researched and wonderfully clever, I have become deeply enamoured of them. I leant them to, and her reaction was the same as mine. Well, called me tonight and gave me some news. Peter Jackson just bought the movie rights. To ALL SIX BOOKS. * SQUEE! *

Okay, So I think I need to start watching 24 now, because they 're adding not just James Cromwell and Alexander Sidding (Zephram Cochrane and Doctor Bashir!) to their cast, and, for that matter, DB Woodside (Principal Wood!) they 're adding Eddie Izzard!!! Eddie Izzard, boys and girls! Dude, that's like happiness on a stick right there. I love Eddie Izzard. (Also, they 're bringing back Eric Balfour, who played Jesse in Welcome to the Hellmouth. It's like the Star Trek/Buffy/Executive Transvestite Crossover Hour with Jack Bauer!)

Went to a movie in an actual theater yesterday, and saw a trailer for what's going to be the next million-squeeing-fangirl slashfest extravaganza fandom. It's the story of two magicians in London in the late 19th or early 20th century, one of whom (played by Hugh Jackman) becomes obsessed with the other's (played by Christian Bale) ability to perform seemingly impossible tricks. Michael Caine co-stars, and there's a least a cameo by David Bowie. Did I mention that Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale are in the same movie? And that they interact? In highly emotionally-charged scenes?

Just saw Little Miss Sunshine. It was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend. In it, Steve Carell plays a depressed guy who has just tried to commit suicide. And really, he sold it way too well. You could feel his weight. You could feel how hard it was for him to keep breathing. I think it wasn't totally an act. My heart hurt watching him. I love him so much! He's just so adorable. It made me wonder if many of the comedians I like are just masking their depression with humor. (Sounds like me?) Jim Carrey has had big problems with depression, Robin Williams is bipolar, and several of the people I know are the same way. So... yeah. Or maybe I'm just reading way too far into it.... still... I am totally in love with Steve Carell.

I have a new favorite TV show, since Invasion was cancelled (and what a bummer that is!). Standoff on Fox on Tuesday nights. I was hoping to see Gina Torres back on TV this season, and here she is! And the chemistry between the leads is just great, and funny. There's some seriously good acting going on there. And I just gotta support Ron Livingston, since he's an Iowa boy. I will also admit, with great shame, that I am thoroughly enjoying Celebrity Duets. This is what happens when I'm not in school. I watch too much TV. And read too many books. I have a list of another 20 or so to add. Someone send me more books to read, I'm almost out.

There was one main reason why America's founding fathers gave Thomas Jefferson, not Benjamin Franklin, the job of composing the Declaration of Independence in 1776. They were afraid that Franklin, a compulsive teaser and trickster, would slip jokes into the document. In my opinion, we Americans would have been better served if Franklin had been chosen and allowed to mess around. After all, even the most profound commitments and weighty situations benefit from the leavening power of humor. Keep that in mind during the oh-so-serious games that are ahead for you, Virgo. Strange in that it sounds more like a fortune cookie than a Horoscope. Perhaps one of those jokes he mentioned? I like it. I will keep it in mind. get yours here

BRITNEY IS A MOM Againbritney Spears celebrated the birth of her second son yesterday, according to US reports. Despite reports the pop superstar and husband Kevin Federline were expecting a little girl, the National Enquirer claims the Toxic singer gave birth to a 6 pound 11 ounce baby boy just before 2am this morning at a Los Angeles hospital. An insider tells the tabloid, "Kevin took Britney to the hospital in the evening hours of September 11 to prepare for the Caesarean birth." The new addition to the Spears/Federline family was born two days before big brother Sean Preston's first birthday. Federline attempted to dupe the press in recent interviews, insisting his wife would give birth around Halloween.http: // www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2006-09-13/
