The old game of “ whose to blame ” is in full swing in DC again as the November elections draw closer. The latest chapter started on Sunday as former President Bill Clinton lashed out at Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace and today Secretary of State Condi Rice is answering his charges. The old “ blame game ” has been around forever in US politics because there is a large group of people in the United States that fixates more on placing blame on someone for a problem than looking for solutions. When I saw the Secretary of State Rice was answering these charges from former President Clinton I was shocked until I realized how many folks live in the US who will believe anything they hear on television without checking things out on their own.

Bob Dreyfuss in Beware The NIE Tompaine.com 09/26/06 makes an important point about the current hoopla over the still-classified National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) called "Trends in Global Terrorism: Implications for the United States." According to news reports, it says that the Iraq War has increased the danger of terrorism to Americans, an interpretation which the Cheney-bush administration deny.

game between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons. The facility was devastated 13 months ago by Hurricane Katrina. Much of the communities in New Orleans still lay in waste, but the city's and people's love of football made this possible. That's a good thing. Drew Brees and Reggie Bush can not rebuild the city, but they can help the Saints win some games. And if the Saints continue playing and winning, then for those 3 hours a week the people of New Orleans can forget about their troubles. That too is a good thing.

As many of you know, I try to avoid reading the newspaper, because it gets me way too mad. Yes, I know I'm missing out on being informed (which is why Krys reads the paper at night instead of going to bed when she's damned tired!), but that's why I watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart!

I loved watching “ The West Wing ” because it was smart, and it was funny, and it made me want to work in politics. It made me want to work for something, or someone, that I believed in. When it went off the air, I was genuinely heartbroken – I ’ m not kidding here – and felt that the characters, my friends, still live somewhere, going on with their lives. That ’ s great writing; God bless Aaron Sorkin. I waited patiently for another Sorkin show to come back, and have been rewarded for my patience. “ Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip ” is a great show, with a great cast, great writing, and a great producer. What a relief.

The cast is good, and has the benefit of being large and talented. Matthew Perry and Bradley Whitford have surprisingly good chemistry, and it becomes increasingly clear that Chandler was Perry, not that Perry is Chandler. I ’ m glad Amanda Peet is back in business, even if her eyes are threatening to devour my soul. D.L. Hughley and Sarah Paulson are actors on the sketch show, and Steven Weber is the antagonist who will be won over, along with his incredibly long face, in a couple of seasons.

The Washington Post describes how the torture compromised was weakened over the weekend. Here's a good example of how tricky it can be to read these laws. Previously the compromise said it applied to people "engaged in hostilities against the United States", now it also applies to those "engaged in hostilities or who has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States." For comparison the military's definition of unlawful combatants covers only "those who engage in acts against the United States or its coalition partners in violation of the laws of war and customs of war during an armed conflict." With the new definition, the administration can designate anyone, anywhere as an unlawful enemy combatant, not just people on the battlefield.

The race between Sen. George Allen, R-va., and his Democratic opponent James Webb has been roiled in recent days by an allegation from some college classmates of Allen's that in the 1970s the young Allen used a racial slur to refer to blacks -- a claim that Allen has called "ludicrously false" and that other college pals of the senator have stepped forward to dispute. The Allen-webb race is among the most-watched in the nation right now. Technorati says "George Allen" is No. 6 on its list of top search terms in the blogosphere this morning.

What the map also doesn't show is the great variation within the parties themselves. The primary between Ned Lamont and Joe Lieberman showed that the Democrats who dominate Naugatuck are very different from those who dominate Cornwall. The Republicans of Greenwich are not the same sort as the Republicans who dwell in Ledyard. The independents of Hartford are a far cry from those in Darien or Somers.

Hot Air ’ s Deity of the dictionary posts the video of Larry Sabato basically confirming part of the Salon article ’ s allegations about George Allen. While, I don ’ t by Shelton ’ s comment that his nickname wizard was a reference to a klansman, given the people on record refuting him, I am inclined to accept that he insensitively used racially charged language. Chris Matthews makes the point, that it is a tough test for people from Allen ’ s generation. True. But in our leaders we need to see how they matured from that point. Given Allen ’ s stumbles (” macaca ”) and his widely reported interest in confederate artifacts, Allen ’ s attitudes and actions on race matter a lot.

I'm rather bored. I thought I had more homework than I did and so I have time to kill until i need to go to bed. I was really dissapointed to see hugh laurie, such a bad ass on house, playing the dad on stuart little tonight on the disney channel. i never really realized it until tonight but it feels like a bit of my soul has been broken :). I did the stupidest thing at work today. These girls at work were in line playing a hand game and when i tried to tell them to stop it i accidentally told them to "stop playing those hand jobs"... It was hilarious. I'm ususally so good at killing time until I have nothing better to do. I don't quite know what to do but i figure this would work for now.

When a group of five men by the name of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop came together to form a musical comedy group, The Rat Pack, in 1960 they made history by becoming some of the most well known performers of the century. In fact, they became legends in their own lifetimes. These men were known for bringing the fun they had offstage to the stage while singing a few songs and cracking jokes. Not only were they musicians but also talented comedians, actors, dancers and womanizers. Each man contributed to the success of The Rat Pack in their own way giving the group its diversity.

I've wondered before about the appeal of the Da Vinci Code. Certainly it wasn't the writing. Dan Brown managed workman-like prose at best. The suspense was adequate, but hardly in the same league as Frederich Forsythe or Robert Ludlum. So, what made Da Vinci the mega-hit of the century? Clearly it was the religious stuff. People are fascinated by religion, and by the thought that they may be able to gain some new knowledge about their own faith (ever wonder why Raiders of the Lost Ark was interesting and The Temple of Doom was boring?). Brown probes into one of the oddities of the Christian faith -- the role of Mary Magdalene, and comes up with an answer (clearly not an original answer, but an answer, nonetheless).

Jason Calacanis said on the latest Gillmor Gang that he would quit if AOL bought them. He just feels wrong seeing entrepreneurs get rich off of stolen content and suggested that "70%" of their content is infringing works. I'd like to point out again that while Lazy Sunday may have put them on the map, 86 of their top 100 videos were user generated in July. Mark Cuban, who I don't always agree with but as Jason says is right more often than not, says Youtube is damned.

Rob Thomas: We are finding that whenever there is someone we really like we just keep using them and using them again. The president of the fraternity ‘ chip ’ [who appeared in a few episodes last season] will be back. The best example of this is Ryan Hansen [Dick Casablancas]. He had one word in the pilot and two in the second episode. When we find an actor character we like we tend to just go back to them.

General Musharraf does not say how much the CIA gave in return for the 369 al-qaida members that he ordered should be passed to the US.

Mark Kennedy's campaign ads started out so great! Footage with his family... it was funny and what ads should be. Not these dark, nay-saying, almost elementary ads that have replaced them. I understand and believe that Amy Klobuchar has these exact same ads shot in Kennedy's direction .... but really, is this what partisian politics have become? Why even vote for either party when they act this childish.

Back in the old days, models had curves, like Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell. And they made me want to get in better and better shape, until I could at least wear high-end fashion clothing, albeit in a larger-than-sample size. And I know that the SELF readers don't relate to these rail-thin runway gazelles, since what they want to look at are inspiring bodies that make eating right and working out the goal. As opposed to throwing up or starving.
