"Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?" - Ernest Gaineswe would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks. Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

ANNA POLITKOVSKAYA, who was murdered in her apartment building yesterday, knew it was dangerous to be an honest reporter in President Vladimir Putin's Russia. Yet, as he wielded a combination of blandishments and bullying to gradually reimpose authoritarianism on his country, Ms. Politkovskaya, 48 and the mother of two, never yielded. Whether reporting on Mr. Putin's dirty war in the separatist region of Chechnya or on the diminution of freedom at home in Moscow, she remained, if not unafraid, unbowed.

Actually, it could; this morning marks the beginning of the annual Blame Game in Yankeeland. The Associated Press is citing a New York Daily News report based on anonymous sources within the Yankee organization that manager Joe Torre will be fired, drawn, quartered, doused in gasoline, set aflame, shot out of a cannon, then vaporized by an intercontinental ballistic missile. His ashes will then be gathered, pressed into a high-density pellet and smashed with a diamond-encrusted titanium hammer personally wielded by George Steinbrenner as the Tampa mafia sacrifices 72 virgins in unison, using their blood to anoint Lou Piniella the new Yankee manager while Satan himself massages his nipples in the background.

Either way, a nuclear test by North Korea is serious. Kim Jong Il seems to have become more aggressive since he left the Six Party Talks earlier this year, after being accused of counterfeiting U.S. currency. Fortunately for us, North Korea seems to be standing alone. Even China, North Korea ’ s closest ally, has agreed that a Nuclear North Korea is unacceptable.

First of all lets get the sniggers out of the way because I love Strictly Come Dancing. Just need to bury Brucie under the patio then it would be great LOL.I watched the first episode of Robin Hood and though it was a bit clunky I will persevere with next weeks episode. Seemed to tick all the right boxes. Robin for the younger females, Richard Armitage in black leather for the more mature viewers and Keith Allen channeling Alan Rickman as teh sheriff. I liked Much and Alan a Dale. They could be good comic value. Anyone else think that Much looked like a young Donald Sutherland?

Sunday - 8.25pm: I went to the cinema on Friday night. We saw The Devil Wears Prada. It's an easy going film and a good one. It's about a writer (Anne Hathaway) who applies for the job of second assistant to the to the Editor-in-chief (Meryl Streep) of THE fashion magazine called "Runway". It's not the easiest job in the world! I have it on good authority (from somebody who has worked in the fashion industry) that the film isn't far off what it's really like. Anyway, it's another film I'd recommend!

The Yankees should allow Sheffield and Mussina to go. The Yankees should look into trading Alex Rodriguez. If there's a way, the Yankees should look to move Giambi - even if it means paying part of his salary and getting lesser players in return. The Yankees need to not rely on Randy Johnson anymore and get, at least, two pitchers in their prime for their starting rotation.

On 24 March 1993 the then-apartheid government of F.W. De Klerk announced to the world that South Africa had built, and then dismantled, seven “ Gun-type ” Nuclear Devices. The haste with which his regime decided to cancel its Nuclear Weapons Program in 1991, sign the NPT and accept IAEA safeguards was, in the words of an ex-diplomat associated with that administration,

The great row has spread to Scotland: The political storm over Jack Straw ’ s comments about Muslim women who choose to wear veils gathered pace last night, as SNP leader Alex Salmond stepped into the row to condemn the leader of the House of Commons and a second government minister wrote a comment piece supporting him. Mr Salmond has written to the prime minister: However, in his letter to Blair, Alex

The waether in San Francisco was amazing yesterday, making it perfect for Fleet Week (during Fleet Week the US Navy allows civilians to go aboard some of their navel ships). The Blue Angels were in top form, and the skies had no clouds in the sky, making the entire show and day spectacular.

In terms of casting, while Matt Damon and Leonardo Dicaprio give fairly competent performances as the leads, they still can't even begin to compare to the mastery showed by Tony Leung and Andy Lau in Infernal Affairs, whose performances in the original were much more nuanced and multi-dimensional. Leung and Lau managed to juggle all the strange faucets of their characters, mixing a perfect balance of confidence & fear, with cool-ness & vulnerability. In contrast, Damon's gangster-mole-turned-cop, Colin Sullivan, tends to come off sometimes as too whiney and rat-boyish, while Dicaprio's police-informant-turned-gangster, William Costigan, sometimes sulks too much and throws tantrums that make you wish that he really was on the Titanic when it sunk.

Tiger relief pitchers ruined them, Kenny Rogers ruined them, Jeremy Bonderman looked like he might no-hit them yesterday. The best batting order since the'27 Yankees had nothing. They were supposed to make history. Instead they turn New York over to the Mets, and maybe get their manager fired. They can't only be Torre's Yankees when they win.

Kyrie eleison... chant is pretty awesome once you get into it. Dr. Howard is a crazy Australian guy who uses Monty Python on occasion to help make points in class (e.g., apparently the monks in Monty Python and the Holy Grail are singing a form of chant that is true to the supposed time period [parallel fifths]). Second semester will be better though.

But nobody touches Anthony Wong. I don't care if Martin Sheen played on one of my favorite television shows of all time. And I enjoyed Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg (yeah, I KNOW) in their salty dog roles. Nicholson was... Nicholson. He was made for this role the same way he was made to play the Daryl Van Horne in The Witches of Eastwick. So, yeah. I recommend it.

No irony here: Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, in town for a fund-raiser for Sen. Rick Santorum, had a close encounter with a large group of anti-republican protesters as he was making his way to the Duquesne Club, Downtown. Protesters said Gov. Bush blew them a kiss, acknowledging the crowd of about 30 chanting pickets that was made up of United Steelworkers and members of Uprise Counter Recruitment, a tour traveling through 22 cities to support anti-war efforts. The protesters came closer. "Jeb, go home," they shouted. Mr. Bush, accompanied by a security guard and a female aide, made a slow retreat toward the T-station at Wood Street...... As a precaution, the governor was ushered into a T-station supply closet and stayed there until the crowd left.

. According to the source, the script for the fourth film is currently being written, and Disney bean counters are already examining ways to cut its massive costs. They have concluded that although both Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley are essential to the continued success of the series, Orlando's character is human Nyquil and "not necessary" to maintain the gravy train (I could have told them that). Whether or not he will be killed in the third movie, due next summer, or be bumped off early in the fourth is not specified.

Take that Yankees. Go home and think about what you did. After loosing the first game in the series, the Tigers sweep the Yankees in three games to take the American League Divisional Series 3-1. It wasn ’ t a close or lucky win either. We flat out dominated them over the last two games. Kenny Rogers, on the mound Friday, was possessed. Then Bonderman came out Saturday and pulled the switch on “ Murderers Row, and Cano ”. I couldn ’ t be happier that the Tigers were the ones to send the Yanks packing! Alex Rodriguez $25,680,727 Derek Jeter $20,600,000 Jason Giambi $20,428,571 Tigers Heart pricelessgood night Yankees, thanks for coming, we ’ ll see you next year! THANK YOU DETROIT TIGERS!

Remember how Jack Abramoff wasn't supposed to be associated with the White House (according to Bush)? Well, in January 2004 Karl Rove threw a party for White House staffers at Abramoff's restaurant -- but was never given a bill. That's one of those things that isn't supposed to be a freebie, isn't it? If Rove was short of cash, he should have asked Cheney for an advance on some of the money he's making on his oil connections.

If it's election season it must be time for swiftboating. And that's exactly what happened on Friday, when Mike Fitzpatrick decided to hold a press conference and attack the military service of Patrick Murphy. Flanked by a few veterans, the swiftboating began. As usual, the guy behind the swiftboating, Mike Fitzpatrick, has never worn the uniform. When John Kerry heard about it he let Fitzpatrick have it and came out fighting for Murphy.

The final public evaluation of our Iraq venture probably will not be fully illuminated until the 2008 election season. But coming very soon is a clue to national Democratic orientation. It is the election contest in Connecticut next month featuring Joe Lieberman, deposed Democratic standard bearer, and Ned Lamont, who opposes the entire Iraq undertaking.

Just a reminder October is national Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As women we are so often critical of our bodies, but if you are in relatively good health I suggest that this month you take a break from criticizing yourself for being too fat, having too much cellulite, or too small breasts. Find something to like about your body even though it isn't perfect. Treat it well, and don't forget your monthly self-exams. If you aren't sure how to do one, you can find info at any of the following links. In fact click the links even if you already know how. It never hurts to have a little more info. Cliff Floyd had a big series, going four for nine with a walk, a home run, three runs and two RBI. Now it's unknown whether he can play in game one of the NLCS. He seems optimistic and three days off will surely help. And both Endy Chavez and Shawn Green wound up having good series with three hits apiece. But the loss of Floyd's bat would be a significant blow to the Mets'starting lineup and bench.

Is walking again! I feel almost leary of writing that down, because the "twitching hour" has yet to pass, but Megs was walking pretty well today. Chris and I had our first date night in a long time last night, so by the time we all got to bed, we decided to make it a sleep in day. And by the way, Chris and I had a great time. Dinner, a movie (AT A THEATER!), and a quick stop at Walmart. I know the Walmart bit is pretty sad, but when we are in a town with a store, we have to stop. We hadn't seen a movie in a theater in 5 years. The one other time! We saw "The Guardian" with Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. It was a great movie, but this Nebraska girl is now even more afraid of drowning/big bodies of water!

People here in the Heartland can separate the panic attacks and the herd mentality that ’ s more prevalent the closer you get to Washington. We ’ ve figured out that Claire Mccaskill is a 24-hour sleaze machine who doesn ’ t play by the rules. We ’ ve figured out that Amy Klobuchar and Patty Wetterling are typical Democratic candidates doomed for failure because they ’ re mental lightweights, lightweights that would be bigger embarassments to the state than Mark Dayton is. We ’ ve figured out that Keith Ellison would become the first congressman who would be a puppet for terrorist-supporting groups like CAIR.

I debated the Executive Vice President of Los Angeles Planned Parenthood, with Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg as the listed moderator. I spoke about the need for parental notification, that government should not interfere with the relationship between parents and daughters. I told the group about the court waiver (Katie Short, in the audience gave a more precise exclamation of it, since she is the one who wrote it for the initiative -- very nice person and dedicated to the cause of Life!). I felt support of 85 is in support of parents, opposition is in support of government and strangers -- all the while, should an abortion occur, it is the parents that must take care of the emotional and medical needs of the daughter, not knowing what is really wrong.

Australian racing driver David Clark has regained consciousness and is breathing unaided. But New Zealander Mark Porter, who is based on the Gold Coast, is still in a critical condition following their Bathurst 1000 motor racing accident at Mount Panorama on Friday. David Clark is recovering well from a punctured right lung and has fractures to his pelvis, right arm and leg but is still in the Intensive Care Unit. Thirty-one-year-old Mark Porter remains on life support at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney with serious head and chest injuries. His wife Adrienne, his one-year-old son Flynn and his parents are with him. © 2006 Newstalk ZB News

The English language unfortunately lacks a specific word for someone who is so despicable and reprehensible that he deserves to be regarded as less than human, and in fact unworthy of the respect a lady or gentleman accords a pet or domestic animal. If such a word existed, we would apply it to the funeral hecklers. Moveon.org, Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan, and the Jeff Rense Show. Moveon.org must be exposed as the anti-semitic, racist, anti-christian, and 9/11 denial hate group that it is and the political career of every single candidate who accepts its support must be destroyed. For the record, here is a list of those who have accepted this reprehensible organization ’ s endorsement:

Even after a batch of truly sleazy instant messages was discovered by ABC News, Reynolds'chief of staff Kirk Fordham, who was also a former aide to Foley, tried to solve the political problem by attempting to talk the network out of publishing the worst of the messages. Fordham resigned last week, but he didn't go quietly, the way House leaders had hoped. On his way out, he threw fuel on the political fire by announcing that he had warned Hastert's staff of Foley's "inappropriate behavior" at least three years ago -- a charge that Hastert's chief of staff, Scott Palmer, denied.

So today's highlight was the Sherrod Brown College Tour. The magical tour which SHOULD have been at Case, but due to administration reasons (surprise surprise), could not be held on campus. So, with the help of CSU dems, we were able to hold it at a Union Hall down by CSU. Anyways, it was a lot of fun to bring people who haven't really seen Sherrod Brown, thanks to Adam Brody (the fine man from the OC). Here are just a few highlights, enjoy!

I found this highly amusing -- George W. may actually be Aleister Crowley's grandson. WTF you say? This story was posted on Fark.com, and while not a 100% certainty, there is a distinct possibility that Barbara Bush nee'Pierce may have been fathered by him. Well then -- I've always contended that George W. was the antichrist, but it appears that maybe he's only his direct descendant .... Let's look at these portraits side-by-side... Pay attention to the nose, the eyes, the shape of the head. There is a remarkable resemblance.
