A new Zogby/Wall St. Journal poll came out today that showed Joe Lieberman with a six point lead over Ned Lamont. Another Zogby/Reuters poll had Joe up 20. Alan Schlesinger still polls in single digits. I don't know what Zogby uses to predict their polls, but nobody loses a 13% lead in a week, unless something big happened, and to my knowledge, nothing has happened. NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker announced today that the network will stop spending money on scripted shows in the first hour of primetime (8PM to 9PM) as part of a 750 million dollar budget cutback. A 20-year veteran fireman, Mccormick died at the University of North Carolina Hospitals at Chapel Hill last Thursday. A vehicle driven by a N.C. Probation and Parole officer struck him from the rear on October 9 as Mccormick tried to direct traffic around a vehicle he had been towing on Philippi Church Road. Brown ’ s fictional account “ documents ” a conspiracy by the Church to cover up the truth about Jesus. I ’ m not sure my work will become equally popular, but I ’ m pretty sure it ’ s closer to reality. The next time Mr. Brown wants to write about massive conspiracies in Europe, he would be well-advised to set his eyes at Brussels rather than Rome. It would be a whole lot more interesting.

THE U.S. SENATE race in Virginia pits a novice politician, Democrat James Webb, against a much more experienced one, incumbent Republican George Allen, who spent much of the early fall obliterating his reputation for amiable charm and political deftness. As Mr. Allen has partially admitted, his wounds in the close race have been mostly self-inflicted and have left a sour taste in the mouths of many Virginians. Still, there is an even better reason to vote against Mr. Allen: Quite simply, he is a mediocre senator whose six years of undistinguished service do not justify rehiring.
