There will be another article later regarding stem cell research itself, but for now, I'll say that Michael J. Fox does not come off as the "shameless" one here. I'd call "shame on Rush Limbaugh," but he'd have to have a sense of honor for that to matter, and Rush is obviously lacking in the conscience department. Stem cells might one day cure Parkinson's, but I don't know if God himself could create a conscience for the self-important blowhard that is Rush Limbaugh.

Bush, signed into law a bill he bulldozed through Congress that, in Senator Patrick Leahy's prophetic words, would suspend "the writ of habeas corpus, a core value in American law, in order to avoid judicial review that prevents government abuse." This law, whose constitutionality is in doubt and will be reviewed by the Supreme Court in due time, puts so much arbitrary and secret unilateral power in the hands of the Presidency that the ghost of King George III must be wondering what all the fuss was about in 1776.

K-lo has a nice catch from an interview with Bob Casey, the Democrat who may unseat Sen. Rick Santorum. Casey comes off as a very typical Democrat, on the one hand lobbing criticisms at the Bush administration for aggressively monitoring the communications of suspected terrorists, while on the other hand trying to appear tough on terrorists by agreeing in abstract terms that terrorists should be watched and listened to. He dances and bobs and weaves in and out of the question, which to the credit of the interviewer he had a hard time getting away with. Hopefully enough voters can see through Casey ’ s stumbling ramba and recognize him for what he is: unserious. It ’ s hard to imagine that he would get more serious if he actually wins the election.
