So many people are racists, it's hard to keep up! Let's take a look at this week's charges of racism, which come from the Left. They focus on two ads in the Tennessee Senate race. This race features Republican Bob Corker and Democrat Harold Ford, Jr. Corker is a white, former mayor of Chattanooga, and owner of a successful construction business. Ford is a black Congressman from a prominent political family in the state.

A number of readers wrote in about a U.S. federal investigation into the Venezulean ownership of Sequoia Voting Systems, which makes voting machines used in 17 states and the District of Columbia. The Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States wonders whether the anti-u. S. government of Hugo Chávez could be trying to influence the U.S. midterm elections. From the article: "Government officials familiar with the Smartmatic inquiry said they doubted that even if the Chávez government was some kind of secret partner in the company, it would try to influence elections in the United States. But some of them speculated that the purchase of Sequoia could help Smartmatic sell its products in Latin America and other developing countries, where safeguards against fraud are weaker."

Scarlett Johansson doesn't do much in the movie. In fact, it was almost as if her character was written in as an afterthought. There are notable performances and surprise appearances from David Bowie (as Thomas Edison's nemesis Nikola Tesla), Andy Serkis (Smeagle in LOTR, as Alley), and Daniel Davis (Niles in the TV show The Nanny).

Except, as I expected, I never bothered to tune in. Because every week I ’ d have a couple of dozen matches minimum to choose from, and without a rooting interest, MLS wasn ’ t particularly interesting. Given a choice between Manchester United, Werder Bremen, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and the Houston Dynamo, the Dynamo were going to lose out every time. Put it another way: I was choosing between Wayne Rooney, Miroslav Klose, Ronaldinho, Diego, and Dwayne Derosario. I realize most of you don ’ t know any of those names, so you ’ ll have to take my word for it: the first four are better than the last guy on the list, and the last guy on the list is the best player on San Jose/Houston.

This year, the Cardinals present a new generation of baseball heroes, most of them surprising. There's Albert Pujols, perhaps the best player in Major League Baseball these few years. Known for his consistent play and power on the field and his charity and faith off of it, he did more than any other player on the team to get the team to the World Series but didn't contribute too much offensively there. Instead, it was players like series MVP David Eckstein at 5'7 "and castoff pitcher Jeff Weaver who helped seal the victory.

Combine the film's huge worldwide box-office take with over 100 million copies of Dan Brown's book sold, and The Da Vinci Code has clearly made the leap from pop-culture hit to a certifiable franchise. For example, in THE Break Up with Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn, the bar tender says to vince... its always about u, she always did what you wanted to do... why not do the same for her. I used to be very open minded and for some reason i became close minded, and i hate that about myself. i ve gone back and read things that i have wrote in the past and i used to have a list of things i wanted to do... i have accomplished none of it. i want to make a new list and i want to do it... please show me how.. help me change for the better.

I know the saying. A good defense beats a good offense. The thing is, in the regular season at least, it is impossible to completely shut down Peyton Manning and this Colts attack. The win you have to be able to match scores with him for at least part of this game, and this Denver team just doesn ’ t score enough to do that. While Bell has been great, do you really trust Jake Plummer in a key fourth quarter drive?

The movie works on many levels. It is a very well directed action flic. Tim Robbins, Derek Luke and Bonnie (Mbuli) Henna give performances worthy of Oscar nominations. It is a powerful story of man's inhumanity to man. It captures the beauty of this torn nation. It asks us to contemplate our own latent racism. (Canadians, who were so strong in their attacks on apartheid, ignore the historical reality that Afrikaner leaders visited our great nation, saw how we treated the First Nation's peoples and embraced those evil concepts in dealing with black Africans.) And it offers us the reality that in the midst of such pain, redemption is possible.

Aston Villa's undefeated streak ended when they met the erratic Liverpool at Anfield. Kuyt scored the Reds'first in the 31st minute with a stunning 12 yard shot. Crouch's goal in the 38th minute was less convincing, but equally effective. Finally in the 44th minute, the frontmen, Kuyt and Crouch passed the ball beautifully as they advanced towards Sorensen. Crouch passed to an unchallenged Luis Garcia who scored from 6 yards. Even Agbonlahor's excellent goal after the interval could not save Villa. So Barry and his boys walked away from Anfield with their first defeat to contemplate.

Although the monkeys were willing to work for bananas, Sean Hannity has a no-trade clause in his contract and the Food Network was unwilling to part with Rachel Ray, so Fox decided to bite the bullet, stick with Hannity, and look for something within their budget that would also make Hannity look, if not Mensa-like, at least as if he didn't have to be chaperoned all day so that he wouldn't stick his tongue in wall sockets.

Back in 1979, when advertising was hot and even the yuppies looked like 80s hippies and divorce and custody battles meant drame, Kramer v. Kramer swept the Oscars. Fast-forward 30 years and the film doesn't age so well. Ad agency salaries are $30,000 a year. After Meryl Streep abandons her husband Dustin Hoffman and their son, Hoffman and the other single parent in their apartment building cling to each other like single parenting is post-apocalyptic. Now it's matter-of-fact. Still, Kramer v. Kramer's relentless earnestness works and it's nice to see two legends in their prime with Streep looking like Kate Winslet and Hoffman looking a spastic cross between Michael J. Fox in The Secret of My Success and Tom Cruise chopped off at the waist.

The primary characters are Greg the Bunny (of course), Warren the Ape, Count Blah, and then there are the occasional characters of Pal Friendly and the Wumpus. Each one brings a different element to the table. Greg is all innocence and naivete, always willing to please whomever it is that needs it. Warren, on the other hand, is the B actor who is stuck on himself, if he isn't the center of attention, it is not even worth his time. Count Blah is a straight up parody of Bela Lugosi, only without the A list movie career, more like starting out with Ed Wood and working his way in the wrong direction. Pal Friendly is like the used car salesman who fancies himself an agent, and only shows up a couple of times. The Wumpus reminded me of Animal from Sesame Street, some kind of crazy monster.

It is also wrong to liken what ’ s going on now, as Mr. Bush has, to the Tet offensive. That sloppy Vietnam analogy was first made by Mr. Rumsfeld in June 2004 to try to explain away the explosive rise in the war ’ s violence at that time. It made a little more sense then, since both the administration and the American public were still being startled by the persistence of the Iraq insurgency, much as the Johnson administration and Walter Cronkite were by the Viet Cong ’ s tenacity in 1968. Before Tet, as Stanley Karnow ’ s history, “ Vietnam, ” reminds us, public approval of L.B.J. ’ s conduct of the war still stood at 40 percent, yet to hit rock bottom.
