"House Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi's endorsement of Rep. John Murtha's bid for House majority leader set off a furor yesterday on Capitol Hill, with critics charging that she is undercutting her pledge to clean up corruption by backing a veteran lawmaker who they say has repeatedly skirted ethical boundaries," reports the Washington Post.

President Bush came under new pressure yesterday at home and abroad to alter his policies in the Middle East. British Prime Minister Tony Blair pushed for a broader Arab-israeli peace initiative to help stabilize Iraq, while the incoming chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee pledged to take a hard line on seeking early troop withdrawals.

The term "software" was first used in this intellect by John W. Tukey in 1957. In computer science and software engineering, computer software is all computer program. The perception of reading different sequences of instructions into the memory of a apparatus to control computations was invented by Charles Babbage as part of his difference engine. The theory that is the source for most modern software was first projected by Alan Turing in his 1935 essay Computable numbers with an application to the Entscheidungs problem.

Captain's Quarters endorses Mike Pence and John Shadegg for Minority Leader and Minority Whip. Both men voted for Jeff Flake's anti-pork amendments, and both men have a long track record of courageous defense of conservative principles. Both men opposed pork-laden appropriations, a stance that could have saved billions of dollars had the rest of the caucus followed suit. They will provide a new direction in leadership, one that leaves the failed and flawed leadership of the past behind and provide a new passion for reform in the Republican minority.

In a desperate bid to do damage control after the midterm election disaster, Bush has finally given the reigns of power to a Mexican Senator from Florida. Senator Mel Martinez will take the reigns from Jewish "closet queen", Ken Mehlmen, as the head of the Republican National Committee.

The Springfield Public Library (SPL) was designed by Edward Tilton in 1912, and reflects the late 19th century/early 20th century mentality of the American Renaissance incorporating the City Beautiful urban projects. The SPL is a complex building based on the Central Library plan, and is an indication of the social idealization of high culture in the United States through cultural self-identity movements.

Celebrity couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes arrived in Rome on Monday with their child Suri, where they will be staying in a penthouse until Saturday when they will be married. unacceptable to conservatives, and will not be nominated. There is an intense dislike (if not outright hatred) of John Mccain among Republicans I know. Mccain is the problem -- not the solution. Guilini is at least funny and solid on defense, but is way too liberal on social issues. He's most likely to be someone's VP pick. Condoleezza Rice is wonderful on national security, but is not pro-life. The Republican Party will not -- and should not -- nominate anyone who is not pro-life. The big battle over the next year will be over the conservative base, as we see different candidates try to claim it. My guess at this point is that the nominee will either be Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney. Sam Brownback would be great too, if he can raise his profile.

Yesterday, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani set up an exploratory committee for a possible run at the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. Arizona Senator John Mccain made a similar announcement over the weekend. It is likely that Bill Frist, Mitt Romney, George Pataki and Mike Huckabee will do the same in the coming weeks.

Later on today, the Seibu Lions of Japan's Pacific League (AKA the rice field Matsuzaka has been pitching for for the last 8 years) are expected to announce that they have accepted a "posting fee" from the highest bidder, MY Boston Red Sox, allowing the team to negotiate with Daisuke Matsuzaka as if he were an actual MLB free agent. And the best part of that is: IF the Sox are unsuccessful in signing him to a contract within 30 days, he can not negotiate with another team and must go back to Japan. In your face NY Yankees!! Oh, and if you were wondering, in that case, the Sox would in fact get back their "posting fee."

A few weeks ago, Lynn Romanek began a campaign to save the environment. Her efforts have paved their way to Winnetka ’ s New Trier high school as well as synagogues, cleaners and other schools. These places have generously helped her out by putting up signs that state her idea: Motorists - turn off your engines while waiting. After watching Al Gore ’ s, “ An Inconvenient Truth ”, Romanek was inspired by the little things that ordinary people can do to make a difference. In these efforts, we can stop global warming by cutting fuel emissions and greenhouse gas emissions. New Trier Superintendent Linda Yonke has helped Romanek by placing signs around the campus. The idea of turning off your engine while idling may sound ridiculous, but it really can make a difference.

The administration's inability to argue more effectively that the stakes preclude both of these options seems to have reflected yet another error: the growing influence in its ranks of those like former Secretary of State James Baker and the bipartisan Iraq Study Group he co-chairs with former Rep. Lee Hamilton. These establishment foreign policy types claim to be "realists" -- yet they advocate prescriptions that have no realistic chance whatsoever of durable success.

My new boss starts tomorrow, I have a nephew coming in tonight from Florida, and the whole weekend was a disaster. Jeff Bowden has resigned as Offensive Coordinator for the Florida State football team in the midst of our worst season since Bobby Bowden's first at FSU thirty years ago. My Apple Powerbook died at home, and I was the source of a worm at work that nearly took down the entire network. I'm hauling my PC laptop back and forth from home to work untl they get my tower cleaned and returned to me. Thank God I've got my G5 at work so I don't have to turn to the PC very often. There are many others deserving credit and taking their fair share as well. There is Senator Chuck Schumer, who at least acknowledged the blogosphere's role last week on Bill Maher's "Real Time." Democrats were sharply divided over whether to give Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi the majority leader she wants in the House. In the House, a bitter battle was under way after Pelosi said she would prefer Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania to be majority leader over her current lieutenant, Rep. Steny Hoyer of Maryland. As reported by the Associated Press (ap.org) critics accused Pelosi of backpedaling on a pledge to scrub the House of corruption. Both Murtha and Hoyer claim to have commitments from a majority of Democrats, but the balloting Thursday will be secret and commitments often change. Any bets on the outcome?

Not terribly significant that Katie Couric's numbers for CBS are down, right? But it's the first time Katie's numbers didn't exceed the ratings Bob Schieffer delivered a year ago — which has been the only hook letting Les Moonves hold his head high in choosing Katie for the job. Thanks to the Death of Spederline, and the intense interest in every possible aspect of the story, anyone even remotely associated with either Britney Spears or Kevin Federline are being sought out so that they can be interviewed in the hopes that any new information might be had. The next speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is a San Francisco liberal of the first water, but many of her party's incoming freshmen campaigned as avowed conservatives. Indiana Democrat Brad Ellsworth, for example, described himself as anti abortion, pro-traditional marriage, "a hunter who supports the Second Amendment," and a "local sheriff" who would fight "to protect our kids from violence and filth on TV and the Internet." He and other "blue-dog" conservatives will be tugging the new Democratic majority to the right, while the defeat of liberal Republicans like Connecticut's Nancy Johnson and Iowa's Jim Leach means that the Republican minority in the 110th Congress will move to the right as well.

Wil Ferrell took a risk when he took on the role of "Harold Crick", but the risk definitely paid off. He's following the path Jim Carrey and Tom Hanks have taken by playing a more "serious" character. Don't get me wrong, this movie is at times very funny but for once, Ferrell's is not running around naked and playing a lunatic. The supporting cast is outstanding (Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Queen Latifah and Maggie Gyllenhaal). The movie is well directed, Ferrell's acting is right on, and everything just works perfectly. Great film!
