I was surprised to see Ken Griffey Jr. go to the White Sox, and was thankful Manny Ramirez did not end up in the NL east, because all the talk i was hearing had him going to the Marlins in a three team deal, with the Red Sox, Marlins, and Pirates. As it ended up, it was a three team deal (Red Sox, Pirates, and Dodgers) that sent Manny out of Boston, but to Lala land rather than Florida. They say Manny was becoming a distraction in Boston so again we will have to wait and see how Jason Bay will fill Manny ’ s spot in the Red Sox lineup, anyway its gon na be an exciting last 2 months of baseball.

Other unreported English neume fragments found in the 8th-century ‘ Tiberius Bede ’ (London, British Library, Cotton Tiberius c.ii) are presented here.

The Dodgers clearly want a SS and now have 5 (!) talented (Kemp, Andre Ethier), highly paid (Andruw Jones, Juan Pierre), or both (Manny Ramirez) Ofs. Seems like playing time was going to be hard to get to all of them. Maybe Ned Colletti values young players just a little more than we thought? Bob Burnquist defended his X Games 13 Big Air title by launching a switch backside 180 ollie over the gap followed by a massive Indy 360. Danny Way placed second with an incredible performance that will be primarily remembered for his slams as opposed to his stomps. After surviving a rag doll of epic proportions on one run and slamming his head on another, Danny Way returned to the ramp and dropped a backflip indy over the gap to a 540 varial to take home the silver. Josquin visited Troyes on at least two occasions, in 1499 and 1501, and Antoine Brumel had done the same in 1497. There is reason to believe that these visits were more than overnight lodgings en route to other destinations. There appears to have been a tradition of singers ’ meetings in the residence of the choirmaster of Troyes Cathedral — meetings of the kind that must have prompted, at much earlier dates, the composition of works like Compère ’ s Omnium bonorum plena and Josquin ’ s Illibata Dei virgo nutrix.

In Philadelphia, a grand jury report has found that Danieal Kelly, 14 years old, died a painful death due to the incomprehensible neglect of parents and social workers. Danieal was found on August 4, 2006 in a West Philadelphia rowhouse with bedsores throughout her 42 pound body. She was 14 years old but weighed what a typical 5 year old would weigh.
